Bio
Players recruited to form a group in Sept 02 to be the host band for a weekly jam session at the BLUEStage Club. Throwing together a group of covers to make the jam run quickly led this group to turning singer/songwriter Kev Nichols solo acoustic material into electric arrangements.
In May of 03 the band played its 1st formal gig and the race was on. 6 months into it, after winning the Detroit Blues Societys Blues Challenge, the band recorded their 1st CD of 12 originals, in a one day live session at Mike Boulans No Cover Productions studio and headed to Memphis. After a good showing there, the gig list filled up and disc sales at live gigs took off. In May 04, another win at the Capital Area Blues Brawl, with keyboardist Jimmy Bulldog Kaiser on board, set the band up for second trip to Memphis & another shot at the International Blues Challenge brass ring of Best Unsigned Blues Band.
As July ended, the heat turned up a notch as Mike Shafley took over the bass line.
Festival & club dates keep rolling in, keeping the band on the road while songwriting took a short break. The assault on Memphis in Feb 05 saw the band place 5th in the finals. Landing in the middle of the top 10 of the nearly 2000 bands that start the local competitions places the Whoodoo Band in the top .5%. The group expects to record a 2nd disc in July-August of 05
The bands 1st Midwest tour took them thru 5 states in 15 days playing 11 gigs, which included Fat Fish Blues both Cleveland OH & Newport KY, Stevie Rays Blues Bar in Louisville KY, Club 152 and the New Daisy Theatre in Memphis, The Slippery Noodle Inn in Indianapolis IN, Skips Party Place in Angola IN, Thunderbowl in Alpena MI and The Green Door Lounge in Lansing MI. Thoroughly seasoned, the players combined 150 years experience and chop honing are paying off handsomly. With 6 able, lead vocalists, strong harmony, a lively choreography, the band backs the soloist in a most tasty manner while keeping the audiences attention focused on the phenomenon.
Watch for this band in your area, and go experience their high energy live show!
