I was born on March 10th, 1984 at Queen General Hospital in Jamaica Queens , New

York . From the time I was born all I could remember was listening to hip hop and soul

music. The first ten years of my life I lived in Southside Jamaica Queens . During the massive affects of the drug and crime era I witnessed everything under the sun at an early age, which helped me see the world for what it is. My pops was in and out of jail all my life, and my mom was working all day damn near everyday so my brother and I learned how to take care of ourselves. That made it easier for us to adapt to any situation that came our way. I moved to the DC, Maryland , and Virginia (DMV) area in 1995. I guess my moms figured it would be better for us but no matter how far you go it’s a ghetto to be found. I found a way to deal with all my stress by writing music and ever since I was 17 that’s what I’ve been doing. This is just the beginning of my journey.

My influences are: All forms of music but I was mainly affected by the 80’s and 90’s hip hop and soul music era.

My real name is Tyrone Potter but I go by the stage name WHY.
