Widetrack

BandRock

"Tangent-free progressive hard rock."

Biography

Widetrack was founded in 2005 by Ron Tippin, a multi-faceted musician/producer from Michigan, USA, who wrote, co-engineered, co-produced and funded the debut Widetrack album, released in spring 2007, and the band's second album, Widetrack II, to be released in December 2009. Widetrack’s music explores the aesthetic of “progressive hard rock without the wanking.” The new album is a significant step forward from their debut, showing immense growth in songwriting, production, and musicianship. Catering mainly to the "approaching midlife crowd who still want an edge to their deep-thought rock”, the music retains a driving energy and melodic sense that compliments its dark and moody undertones. Buzz on the group has been building since performing at the 2007 and 2008 Voodoo Music Experience shows in New Orleans. Given the chance to perform on the same bill as such artists as Stone Temple Pilots, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against the Machine, The Mars Volta, Porcupine Tree, The Black Crowes and many more, the band rose to these occasions and won over a wealth of new fans.

Lyrics

Violet

Written By: Ron Tippin

fatally flawed
by your own father
seeking his warmth
through every john
finding rebirth
here where you always are

waiting to die alone
fighting your one defense
singing a siren’s song
to the world

memories of
innocence stolen
crawl in your blood
breaking you down
blaming yourself
wondering what went wrong

waiting to die alone
fighting your one defense
singing a siren’s song
taking your own revenge
waking denials up
to the ways of your world

(lead section)

this world is no substitute for the one
your soul spirals down toward
but no one can solve the pain that you’ve known

purging your sins
in the red water
feeling your wrists
opening up
finally now
maybe you’re going home

waiting to die alone
fighting your one defense
singing a siren’s song
taking your own revenge
saying goodbye to it all
sighing your dying breath
waking denials up
to the ways of your world

The Promise

Written By: Ron Tippin

you won the pageant
by just being born
held them in your palm
when they watched you perform
worked enough pole
to climb your way into film
now won’t Daddy be proud

thirty minutes left till you go on
to powder up your nose
and paint your face off
the final moments
you visualize pleasing him
and earning your bond
to the warmth

and it’s suddenly all you have
to roll with
pandering out to the warmth
and it’s sure to be something
to forget

but soon
you’re gonna’ make them all
respect the promise

someday
you’re gonna’ take yourself
away from all this

standing naked
before the “in” crowd
the cameras start to roll
as you take your first bow
contemplating the elegance
of your hair
unraveling now

fantasizing of when you were young
and everyone would gather ‘round as you spun
Daddy knew that you did it all
just for him
and groomed you to bleed
for the warmth

and it’s suddenly all you have
to roll with
pandering out to the warmth
and you’re gonna’ be
all he ever wanted
all the years that he held you
to the warmth
and it’s sure to be something
they may not see it now

but soon
you’re gonna’ make them all
respect the promise

someday
you’re gonna’ take yourself
away from all this

all that
the others have you want
and your time has come now

nothing
can hold you back from what
you’re meant to be now

nothing

Say the Words

Written By: Ron Tippin

the talk that never comes
gets stuck inside your throat
choking down your tongue once more
like you’ve always done

your smile tastes bittersweet
like candy when you’ve had too much
reasoned
till it all comes back up

say the words
come to light
shed the weight inside
just say the words
call it out of your mind

your blood runs hot and cold
and leaves you so lukewarm
who could ever know your heart
felt so wronged and wasted

say the words
come to light
shed the weight inside
just say the words
eye-to-eye

stand against the force that drags you down
you’ve been a doormat too long

rise above this state you’re in
and breathe the world you find to life

(drum break: 8 bars)

say the words
come to light
shed the weight inside
just say the words
eye-to-eye
face the wind

all you want is to be liked
but what you want has a price

rise above this state you’re in
and breathe the world you find to life

A Single Step

Written By: Ron Tippin

It seems like a thousand years
Have passed since you’ve been gone
Let us take this time
To visit all the stomping grounds
The weather seems alright
To check the towers out

I’m making this one last
I’m making this one last
You’re with me now

It’s hard to believe how much you see
From this far up
Central Park’s just one of many
Microscopic blots
Still, it seems that jet is flying awful low

I’m making this one last
I’m making this one last

The clouds are breaking now
What a scene it must be from below
There’s only one way this can go

The city lost beneath the dust
True freedom calling to us

The clouds are breaking now
What a scene it must be down there
Take my hand now, son
It’s clear that we can’t stay
But soon the wind will take us in
A single step
That’s not so bad, now is it?

(break)

The city lost beneath the dust
True freedom calling to us

The clouds are breaking now
What a scene this must be from below
There’s only one way this can go

The Shrine

Written By: Ron Tippin

The picture runs on the wall
Projecting images of
A time in life no longer there

You spend your days never moving on
A few more years and then you’ll be gone
It’s hard to find a reason to even care

And now
You feel no warmth when the sun’s up
You see no light in the sunset

So many things you recall
With every new reel you watch
A single thought burned in your head

For everything that is who you are
To suddenly be reduced to nothing
It’s kinda’ like already being dead

And now
You feel no warmth when the sun’s up
You see no light in the sunset
Compared to what is your sole interest

Color it with the best intentions
Suffer in silence

You feel no warmth when the sun’s up
You see no light in the sunset
Compared to what is your sole interest
Nothing in life gives you comfort
As much as this

Seize

Written By: Ron Tippin

“Come work, son,”
I would hear
All though my young life,

“Someday, I will be taken
From your eyes;
Know this...”

I see you now
Growing up
And the words echo loud
From beyond:

"Seize onto now
It’s over too fast
There's only so much"

Come learn, son
Of the great ones
In our bloodline

But careful as you trace it
Not to lose your will

Don’t hang yourself from the rope
That the world says you must to belong
‘Cause it's solely your call what you must do

Seize onto now
It’s over too fast
There's only so much

Show me your world
Tell me of the light
Help me find your love for life
My soul never learned
To play it like you do

Seize onto now
It’s over too fast
There's only so much

In the Blood

Written By: Ron Tippin

I dreamed you were enclosed in light
And Dad led you to the ones you’d lost

So beautiful, yes
But hardly your plan
Not like this

Your blood is still your blood

The sickened cells that grow inside
Beg you to say you just give up

It’s all academic
These hindrances that taunt your will
There’s too much left to be done now
With your time left

And maybe this all
Don’t make any sense
Don’t take it as a curse
You need to be strong
Don’t ever accept
You’re headed for the worst
You’ll never see the cause
Just take the next step
Don’t let it plague your worth
You’ll never be alone
Don’t ever think it

We all have seen the glory you wrought
Despite the hardship that you came from
And your story will long be honored
By the ones you named

Your blood is still your blood

And maybe this all
Don’t make any sense
Don’t take it as a curse
You need to be strong
Don’t ever accept
You’re headed for the worst
You’ll never be alone
Don’t ever think it

You’re tended by the source of blessed hope

Fault Line

Written By: Ron Tippin

A static drone swarms your ears
Flattened highs
Stifled tears

Current pulling back
With no warning
True to form
By your lone sum

Long-known sum

Second thoughts
Wired in
Venting on
Rival winds

Seal off your way back
From this portal
Self-exile
By your lonesome

Long-known tales of sorrow

You search your family
For those who claim you’re wrong
As if no one recalls what was said

A certain memory
Resembling a seance
Won’t let you part with your past

And inside your rift
You’re home

Let it come
Warm your bed
Vitriol
Cold and deaf

Sift through the wreckage
Find your motive
Polarized
By your lone sum

Long-known tales of sorrow

You burn in effigy
The ones who plague your love
As you cope with the loss of your friend

The skill of that which lets you
Come away a player
Won’t let you barter with your guilt

And this side of your rift
So long you’ll play on
All on your own

Star-crossed

Written By: Ron Tippin

How could I explain this?
It doesn’t matter anyway
The urgency you longed to still
Has surely left you there alone

Shine on as you are
Don‘t be afraid
It’s silly to resist
Try
All you long for will be this

I have felt no pain like
The native song that’s on your lips
The recurring dream you long to live
The night has filled you with

Don’t wait for it
It won’t be there for long
Say now what truly is
Lie
All you’ll long for will be this

Don’t fade out
Say now that you’ll come outside
Don’t try running
From the love I send
Your eyes

Say hello
Say hello

Oh, say now
You’ll come outside
Don’t try running
From the love I send
It’s on your way

It’s on your way from here
It’s on your way

It’s everything you’ve wanted
I can tell it is
Lover

Lazicarus

Written By: Ron Tippin

Time comes to the end
No fear in your eyes
Upon your ascent
Through grace of your life
No shade from the sun
As your wings burn to ash
No hope left to still our cries

God knows how it is
To lay where you are
The curse of it all
To fade till you’re gone
But it ends now
But it ends now

Flux of your love
Plagues and ghosts
Can’t hold you now
Delivered beyond your death

Son, rise up
Fly on home

All life‘s pain was locked herein
But it ends now
But it ends now
Here

Flux of your love
Plagues and ghosts
Can’t hold you now
Delivered beyond your death

Son, rise up
Fly on home
Shine on the wicked
Shine on, son

All that’s left
Must be enough for ours
To bear the loss that’s come
Sure as the dusk that falls
On everyone

Just know I will be there
And this isn’t the end
Your night’s taken so long
But it ends now
But it ends now
But it ends now
But it ends now

Flux of your love
Plagues and ghosts
Can’t hold you now
Delivered beyond your death
Shine on the wicked, son

Son, rise up
Fly on home
Shine on the wicked
Shine on, son
Lazicarus, all you are
Still shines on
Shine on the wicked
Shine on, son
Shine on

Always The Man

Written By: Ron Tippin

spiraling down through the misery of
bottling up all your wishes for something
more than you’ve found
in the arms of your tormentor

holding your breath till the ritual’s done
bleeding your love like a tear in the ocean
wondering how it could ever have come to this

always The Man who runs the show
always The Man

watering eyes cause your vision to blur
veering you off from the path that leads homeward
bordering on a mirage and an oasis

always The Man who runs the show
always The Man who’s got control
always The Man
we all should know
(oh, should know)

and nobody wants to believe he's stolen
what nobody wants to concede they don't have
when no one knows how make their own minds up

always The Man who runs the show
always The Man who’s got control
always The Man
we all should know
always The Man

Now and Then

Written By: Ron Tippin

lust to dust
growing old together
placing trust
in a golden tether

i can see
that there’s a need to prove that i can be
all the things you want and more

savior love
show me i can do this
in the balance of following our true bliss

stay with me
see beyond what i am
i can be all the things you want and more

now and then
i think of
now and then
take my doubt away
i wanna’ go where all is synergized
and never either-or

all my life
all i ever wanted was to become
all the things you want and more

waiting for the end
to take me from this soulless empty rut
that i’ve been living for

i can’t die
wondering if i was wrong to give up
all the things i wanted more
than us

now and then
i think of
now and then
