Bio

Initially, William Vivanco is interested by plastic arts, drawing all the time, but finally, the guitar irresistibly attracts him. He constantly frequents “La Casa de la Trova” in Santiago and meets many “trovadores”, such as Eliades Ochoa (before he got famous), learning a lot by listening to them.
His non-conformism drives him away from the Cuban traditional musics; with an insatiable curiosity, he likes to discover all kinds of musical worlds: pop, rock, reggae, Haitian, Celtic, Oriental and, most of all, Brazilian musics. As he says: “Everything is falling down in my guitar’s mouth”. His universe is constantly enriched by different influences; nevertheless, Cuban music is the root, the cement of his songs.
He is creating his own style with a lot of talent. Trying to discover other sounds, he explores all what he can do with his voice: using his mouth as a percussion, vocalizing in Arabic style… The two years that he spent in the bosom of the “Coro madrigalista” gave him the opportunity to get the technical basis to develop his vocal universe.
In 1998, he is selected as a “National project”, and he starts to be in touch with a group of young artists, writers, and poets; since then, he is improving his composition and writing work.
William records his first solo album in 2002 “Lo tengo to’pensao”: his record is mixed with pop, reggae, and Brazilian music. The song “Cimarron” is a hit, often played on the radio, and the video-clip, based on this song, got several nominations for the “Premios Lucas”: the awards for the best video-clips of the year in Cuba.
Today, he is returning to a more acoustic form, where his musical personality is deeply fulfilled. He is working on his second album, which will be produced by Martin Meissonnier.
This producer (famous for his productions in the 80’s with Fela, King Sunny Ade, Khaled…amongst others) met William in Santiago de Cuba in 1999: “He was the most impressive young musicians I ever heard. Years later, I still had in my memory one of his songs, that I had listened only a single time”.
William Vivanco starts to play in France, accompanied by the excellent Inor Sotolongo (percussion) and Luis Manresa (bass).
His fist concert was in December 2003 during the festival “Transmusicales de Rennes” where several professionals discovered him.
During the summer 2004 William has played for thousands of people; he conquered and totally seduced the publics of the “Paleo Festival de Nyon”, (July the 20th) and of the Cuban night of “Les Nuits de Fourvière” in Lyon (July the 27th).
In August 2005, he played in the Vence festival “Les Nuits du Sud”.
William Vivanco is certainly dedicated to a promising future, and presents himself as an artist with an infinite potential.
