Bio

“Willyton” - Artist Extraordinaire

Born William Baez in Caguas, Puerto Rico to Edwin Baez and Aida Rodriguez, Willyton knew early in life that music was in his blood. Edwin, Willyton’s father is a great and well respected percussionist in Puerto Rico. Willyton would sit and watch his father perform and couldn’t wait until he was old enough to begin his musical quest. Willyton was drawn to the trumpet and the trumpet seemed to be drawn to him as well. The first time Willyton picked up the trumpet, the love affair began. It seemed to be as natural as learning to walk. Willyton would practice for hours and hours each day until his mother would force him to put the trumpet down. She urged him to go outside and play with the neighborhood children. Willyton wanted to learn everything he could about music and the trumpet. His father enrolled him at the Paoli School of Music in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Willyton excelled through his school years demonstrating the greatest of discipline and dedication. All his instructors were impressed with this young boy’s natural ability to play his instrument. Not only did Willyton excel on the trumpet, but on the piano and percussion instruments as well. At this point, Willyton knew that music would be his life so he enrolled at the Conservatory of Music in Puerto Rico from 1998-2001. The word started to spread fast about this young man from Caguas.

Willyton started performing with Jessica Cristina, Karis, Cultura Profetica, Jon by Four, Charlie Cruz, Orquesta Querubin and the Municipal Band of Caguas. At this point, Willyton began to make his mark in Puerto Rico but he still wasn’t satisfied. He felt like there was still something missing. He heard about another music conservatory which is also a highly respected school; named The Armed Forces Conservatory of Music and is located in Norfolk, Virginia.
This school has an excellent reputation and is known to be an advanced paced conservatory meaning you achieve three years of knowledge in a short 6 month course. Willyton was excited and anxious for the challenge. Once again, he exceeded all expectations by accelerating out of the school in less than one month, leaving all instructors in awe.

Willyton was placed with the best bands the Army had to offer and was given special privileges to tour Iraq and perform for the Troops. Willyton, being part of the Elite Military Band has also had the privilege of performing for the President and Vice President of the United States. Willyton has performed and opened shows for Monchy y Alexandria in Jacksonville, Florida. He performed at the River Street Festival in Savannah, Georgia and at the Hispanic Festival in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Willyton is bi-lingual and specializes in reggaeton, merengue, salsa, hip-hop and rap. His career uplifted when he signed a record deal with Rhythm Universal Records. He has a new single entitled “Oye Como Va” to be released May 2009, as well as his debut CD to be released October 2009 featuring a super hot reggaeton original entitled “Hey Mamma”.
