Although Wil May started out aspiring to be a Blockbuster filmmaker or meticulous neurosurgeon, his discovery of his talents as an electrifying dance-tempo trackmaster/rapper has led him to tell stories instead in the form of “postmodern” rap music. Familiar with the cinema verite movement, he makes his music in the mode of gritty authenticity while maintaining its self reflexive entertainment value.
His music is satirical, astute and insightful. He marks array of influences from intellectuals like Fredric Jameson, Ayn Rand and Kurt Vonnegut, to technologists like Steve Jobs and Robert Moog to artistes like Tom Ford, Chuck Close, and Banksy.
The Michigan born college graduate is releasing his debut project, “The Frathouse is Like a Traphouse” as an autobiography of his seedy, but mostly preppy, experiences hustling spoiled, rich kids in an ivy league-esque environment. Wil May elaborates, “Most people hustle to get out the hood. I used my brain to get out of the hood and hustled in college. It's safer.”
