Biography

Wilson J. Hur has acquired the reputation of being one of the most talented young soloist in the region. As a working full time musician, he has kept a busy schedule performing for over 200 engagements a year. He has dazzled audiences with his emotionally charged and virtuoso performances, winning the favor of many music lovers and casual listeners a like. Wilson gained much attention when Tucson’s Casino del Sol featured him on a highly televised commercial airing in 2004, to current. Specializing in the Spanish Repertoire, his influences include; Andres Segovia, John Williams, and Paco Pena, to name a few.

Educated at the highly ranked San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the University of Arizona’s prestigious Guitar Studies Program, Wilson studied under the guidance of the world famous David Tanenbaum and Tom Patterson. Other teacher luminaries include; David Russell, Pedro Quadra, Dusan Bogdanovic, Marc Teicholz and Paul O’dette. He went on to receive the William Wolf Guitar Scholarship and was awarded in the Schaeffer Endowment Competition.

His repertoire of works range from; Classical Masterpieces, such as the great lute pieces of Bach; to the Mediterranean sounds of Spanish guitar pieces of Isaac Albeniz and Francisco Tarrega, also in his library of music includes pieces from the South American brilliance of Antonio Lauro, Laurindo Almeida and Augustine Barrios.

Wilson J. Hur has been hired to perform for private parties, corporate functions, private concerts, weddings, and festivals. He has made appearances at the Tucson Botanical Gardens, Tohono Chul Park, San Xavier Mission, Starr Pass Resort, Fiesta de la Primavera, Hacienda del Sol, and L’auberge in Sedona. He has worked mainly as a soloist, but has been featured with a guitar trio, duo with a violin or singer, and soloist with Chamber Orchestra. He can provide music to serve a wide range of musical tastes; from background ambiance, a wedding ceremony, or to perform a full-scale Concert with varying programs.
