"The Sun - Albums of the Week"

WINDMILL - Puddle City Racing Lights
Rating ****
IN the windmills of Matthew Thomas Dillon's mind, he's sharing some intergalactic stage with such spaced-out Americans as Mercury Rev and Flaming Lips.
Strange to think that he's a 26-year-old English bloke from Newport Pagnell who started out making homemade four-track albums in his bedroom.
Windmill is effectively his stage name and the excellent but eccentric Puddle City Racing Lights is his first proper release.
His voice is a strange, high-pitched but alluring instrument and his piano-driven songs are filled with delicate beauty.
His album is an undiscovered treasure

"FHM - This week's most pleasant surprise"

Lovely tune, this. Kind of bonkers in a David Bowie sort of way. Kind of really chirpy in a Polyphonic Spree sort of way. Kind of summery in the sort of the way the UK isn’t right now, which is a smart move by Windmill. They’re giving us every possible excuse to cling to the sunny months that we never make the most of but always look forward to. Good name too. Windmills rule. - FHM

"The Guardian"

"Timeless and Graceful. Tales of asthmatics and fashion houses, plastic pre-flight seats
and boarding lounges that you can't help returning to. ****4 stars" - The Guardian - The Guardian

"Paste Interview (Artist of the Day)"

“Are you disappointed?” Matthew Thomas Dillon asks. “You sound disappointed.” Dillion—the endearingly self-deprecating British musician who performs as Windmill—and I are discussing his sophomore LP, Epcot Starfields, his concern providing a telling glimpse into the heart of a singer-songwriter still adjusting to sharing his music with the world. Indeed, whether it’s filled with thundering drums and lush strings or minimalist keyboard, there’s something intensely private about Dillon’s music, in which he wrings out his emotional laundry with high, fragile vocals... - Paste Magazine

"Soundcheck Magazine"

His lyrics are beautiful, striking the listener with images of late night airport lounges
and emptied rooms: they shoot straight for the heart and hit the bull’s-eye every time.
The album rarely journeys to happier territories. It’s in his sadness that we
find Dillon’s true genius. Windmill may soon become a big name in the indie music world,
and with music like Puddle City Racing Lights, its praise will be well
deserved. – Soundcheck Magazine - Soundcheck Magazine

"Under the Radar"

There's a magnificent and unexpected moment in "Boarding Lounges" - the second track
on this debut by 28 year old Brit Matthew Thomas Dillon - where Dillon's high,
wavering voice nearly cracks as he strains to squeak out the word "stay." A few seconds
later, Beatles-y violin pops in and soon this unassuming piano ballad
becomes a full-fledged sing-along. It's a quirky, wonderful moment on an album full of
them 8/10." - Under the Radar - Under the Radar

"The Sunday Telegraph"

"...subtly beautiful and hugely addictive.****4 Stars" - The Sunday Telegraph - The Sunday Telegraph

"USA Today"

"And you may not have heard of Windmill, but the London-based musician is one of
my favorite new discoveries. His Puddle City Racing Lights arrives July 22
and may please fans of the Flaming Lips and beyond. – USA Today - USA Today

Bio

Windmill is Matthew Thomas Dillon. Often compared to some of the greats of 90’s American indie but also rightly recognized as being uncompromisingly individual.

Windmill has made a bold entrance into the live music scene, sharing billings with The National, Patrick Watson, The Smashing Pumpkins, Vampire Weekend and touring with Annie Clark’s St. Vincent. All in the space of three years. He has produced two critically acclaimed albums in that time, 2007's "Puddle City Racing Lights" and 2009's "Epcot Starfields."

Windmill is signed to Friendly Fire Recordings in the US.
