Wind-Up People

Wind-Up People is Farid Rener, Drew Nelles, Derek Lappano and Max Halparin. Like most bands, great or otherwise, Wind-Up People started out of boredom and over beers. Former members of the Hoof and the Heel, the Coal Choir and other projects far too famous to mention got together and made music the way young people always have, or at least the way they’ve done since the mid-fifties, depending on when you want to start keeping track. The band is built on quotidian contradictions: nostalgia for a half-remembered nineties (grunge, shoegaze, the Canrock of Ontario and the East Coast) that somehow sounds current; four feminist men wondering why they make dude-rock with other men. Wind-Up People sounds like the urban quarterlife crisis, post-collegiate inertia, menial part-time work and life in the unrewarding "cultural industry."
