"Trio comes up trumps at RSL"

Local trio Winston Chariott, Mikey Edwards and Crick Boue will sound out Currumbin RSL on Saturday night with infectious tunes.
Chariott began his musical career as a four-year-old with chopsticks and household pots and pans.
As the son of American-born roots singer/percussionist Leroy Simmons, who played alongside artists Jimmy Barnes, Trapazoid, Christine Anu and Marcia Hines, Chariott was destined to have music running through his veins.
Chariott progressed to drums and 13 years later had developed his sound with the addition of three more instruments including vocalist to his arsenal.
He relocated from Sydney to the Gold Coast 2008 and after working new ideas with Nick Stewart from ARIA award winning band 'George' more recently Taylor and Elixir fame, Chariott found himself engaging audiences through his solo performances.
Chariott later connected with Edwards and Boue early 2009 to form the trio that is renown for fusing dissonant tones, alluring vocals and honest lyrical intent with elegant bass lines and syncopated rhythm.
Currumbin RSL supports local talent in the main bar every Saturday night. - Gold Coast Bulletin

Bio

‘W/C’ - ‘Find yourself’
Winston Chariott: - Vocalist, Guitars, Drums and “2 step shuffle”...

After travelling across the NSW/QLD border and into a place “where the city meets the sea...” Winston Chariott brought with him not only a suitcase, but also a collection of believable original material that he considered his ‘work in progress’ that was so far yet to be heard...
Early 2008 Chariott headed for Queensland’s sunny Gold Coast.

By chance, he originally teamed up with Nick Stewart (ARIA award winning band - "George") who thoughtfully took him under his wing and provided Chariott with some very sought after guidance and advice towards approaching the local venues that had an acquired taste and reputation for live original music. It was through this guidance and his own adamant direction that Chariott met the first addition to his arsenal, Mikey Edwards. Chariott had already managed to successfully market himself to the solo original scene, all the while writing and re-working his growing repertoire of original material, therefore the idea of expanding and possibly collaborating on this project seemed to be an innate ‘evolution’...
Well it could only get better from here... right?

Winston and Mikey (‘Winston Chariott’) enjoyed the most part of 2009 writing, creating and performing as a duo, but also incorporating guitar, bass and drums at a number of trio performances... Playing live shows during 2009 along side other established and well recognised Gold Coast acts such as Taylor, Jac Stone, A French Butler called Smith, Helm, Coby Grant, NR&D, Dan Hannaford and Preston Fight.

Mikey Edwards: - Bass, vocals, guitars and “4x step shuffle”

Mikey brought years of experience to “Winston Chariott” and a definite history of involvement within the Gold Coast LIVE & LOCAL music industry. Formerly bass player of the popular Gold Coast band ‘Nemesis’and also a number of various well recognised local covers and original acts. He has gained valuable knowledge and experience performing live solo/duo & band gigs thru-out a career in the Gold Coast music industry spanning almost 20years. And having also had the opportunity of playing support act along side the likes of Australian artists such as: Mondo Rock, Goanna, Richard Clapton, Nick Barker and the Reptiles, Roxus, Skunk Hour & The Cat Empire....
Mikeys acredited bass playing and preceeding reputation with also a prior collection of recording projects under his belt became more evident and therefore more inviting to Chariott. His abiltity to create, write and perform solid and melodic bass lines, matched with a strong stage presence and his complimented harmonies to Chariotts alluring vocal and dissonant guitar tones became apparent. This was the platform for what was then unknown, but was due to become a very stable and established Winston Chariott.

Fast forward to February 2010 and allow the introduction of the 3rd member and an extremely well sought after piece of the ‘W/C’ puzzle, one which had been described previously as or definitely always considered to be our ‘missing link’... Live Drums!

After the previous 18months of writing, performing, refining material and always creating ideas/songs where it was extremely apparent the drums (Chariott’s forte’) were an integral and important part of the involved writing process; especially with collaborating on the newer material that was emerging. Searching for a suitable drummer had started becoming a long process that “Winston Chariott” found to be not an easy task and quite difficult at times...

Tim Kasjan: - Drums & percussion, vocals and “1 & 3 step shuffle”

However long the wait it was well worth it, with finally the addition of Tim Kasjan to “Winston Chariott”.

Tim brings with him aside from his professional ability and talent on the ‘Kit’, he also lends strong vocal capabilities, a great ear for creating/writing vocal harmony and also plays & writes on guitar. The added bonus (maybe? depends how you look at it...) of an almost dead ringer for Ben Harper, it looks uncanny to see him behind the drums. However it definitely was not this ‘look’ that Chariott and Edwards sought after or even considered initially, it was all about Tim’s playing and passion for music, his talent & ability, humble attitude and also his drive & committment to ‘nailing’ the songs with a keen interest in overall involvement with the project...
It was an innate evolution once again for ‘Winston Chariott’...

As 2010 draws now to a close the 3x piece can positively reflect on a successful 2010. The past year has had some great personal and professional achievements. “Winston Chariott” continues striving forward and setting sights firmly on achieving their future goals :

2010 Achievements: - The year to date so far...

*An expanding collection of original well-crafted melodic and believable songs.
- Some 30x tunes in preparation and pre-production
