Born in Detroit, but brought to you by way of Lexington, W.I.P. is just that, a work in a progress that evolves not only with each listen, but each track. This is that grime that goes hard on the dirtiest R&B, a kind of golden age of hip-hop vibe that just flows like water. This is an emcee that will leave you thinking, with a rhyme scheme that accents that beat in a way that denies your right to stand still, which makes sense given his background with drums and percussion. You bop to his raps and just chill on the story. W.I.P. isn’t shy about grinding and spins a dope story, backed by solid beats. You can hear those narrative chops in his raps, which are influenced equally by musicians and modern day philosophers like Nas, Rakim, Common, Wu Tang, and the like. You might have caught him out and about. He’s opened up for Cash Money Records, Waka Flaka, Rakim, Big Boi and collaborated with Rmllzw2llz and DJ DS not only with the mighty WGTR$, but on the Iandeyeradio show. He’s performed in Tokyo, Japan, Detroit, Lexington, Louisville, and plenty in between.
