Bio

Alexandre Fortuit is originally from Paris, France. He has studied percussion and
drumming since the age of 13 both privately and at the Erik Satie Conservatory
in Paris. He moved to New York in 1999 to study at the Drummers Collective in
Manhattan with an emphasis on jazz performance and composition (Ian Froman,
Barry Altschul, Matt Garrison as teachers). He received his certificate in 2001
and continued his studies privately. He also studied Indian drumming during this
time, and began teaching percussion to children as part of an afterschool
program in East Harlem. He studied orchestration for film with Scott Smalley(
Danny Elfman, Jerry Goldsmith)
Alex is currently scoring a prime time French TV series for "France 2" He now
performs and collaborates with several bands in New York City. He also
continues to teach drums and percussion privately. He has been involved in a
variety of projects, from theater music performance and composition with Bond
Street Theater Company to playing locally and internationally with jazz and
pop/electronica artists.
His current projects include Filmworks, an electronically based set of musical
vignettes designed to be set to motion – whether the backdrop be film, video
based art installation,or any project involving movement and imagery through
time and space, he wrote the music for several short films and for the Austin
ballet company. He also plays live drum and bass with DJ’s while utilizing
computer technology simultaneously.
Alex is also part of travis Sullivan's Bjorkestra and has played a major role in the
development of the project. Alex has performed with Artists such as Donny Mc
Caslin, Ron Affif, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and has performed in some of New York city
finest venues such as Joe's Pub, Makor, Time Café and the Knitting Factory (part
