"San Francisco Benefit Show Huge Success"

San Francisco Benefit Show a Huge Success

It was the night of May 11th, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Benefit Show was upon us, and the bands were loading in at Pier 23 in San Francisco. There was a bit of a chill coming in off the bay, but luckily the venue features a large white tent outside, which shielded us and our guests from the wind. After the tables from the dinner hours were cleared, the bands set up, our friends & fans started rolling in, and the music began.

First up was Brittany Shane with her warm yet powerful voice, ably backed by her band's phenomenal country-inspired rock musicianship. Then came the dynamic, layered sound of Wish Inflicted, featuring songwriters Brian Cooper and Branden Boyd, who seamlessly weave honest lyrics and solid vocal harmonies into a backdrop of acoustic & electric guitar driven rock. Bray was up next, playing a funk infused powerpop, with big guitars and musical hooks galore. And closing out the night were The Cons, who pulled off an amazing set of jangly rock drenched with brit-rock overtones -- their inspired rock & roll kept the crowd hanging in to the wee hours.

Our thanks go out to EVERYONE who helped out with the show! To all the bands who volunteered their time and energy, it was a phenomenal night of music, and we could see the fans enjoyed it! We were glad to have Nick, "the master of raffle," as well as Kat & Sonja "the raffle girls" working the crowd -- they did an awesome job! And to all the friends and fans who braved the chilly spring evening to cheer us on at the show, and who contributed SO generously to the cause, you guys rock!

A big CHEERS goes out to our East Coast friends Austin, Natalia, and Noah of Team Cuttler, who asked us to host this event, and supported us in so many ways as we planned, promoted, and put on the show. We were glad to help, and we know that despite the 3,500 mile distance, you were there with us in spirit. Also, congratulations to all the winners of the great prizes, and our appreciation goes out to everyone who contributed prizes, especially Kurt at Buddy Lee Records, who donated a Telecaster guitar autographed by Counting Crows.

Together, counting matching contributions we'll receive, we raised over $3,000 toward blood cancer research, education and patient services. We could not have done it without everyone's help and participation. Thank you!

Bio

After humble beginnings playing college bands in small town Oregon and Minnesota, songwriters Branden Boyd and Brian Cooper ran into each other in Portland, OR. They worked together to found the music program at the German American School, and quickly recognizing a strong commonality in musical influences and aspirations, they began collaborating on their respective originals. Under the name Vision, they first aired acoustic renditions of their music on the Northwest singer-songwriter circuit.

In '97, Branden moved to Germany, eventually forming The Orange Door, along with Nashville vocalist / fiddler Clare Burson, and promoted that band's self titled CD. Brian relocated to Northern California, playing regular acoustic shows with prominent local artists like Megan Slankard, and recorded the 2001 EP, "Ocean Sun," with his band Mayberry. Branden, then in Washington, DC, built up a strong following playing many acoustic music venues. Though keeping in touch and jamming together whenever possible, the two songwriters continued their separate paths, crafting new songs and steadily gigging. They maintained their friendship, and occasionally performed in collaborative shows on one coast or the other.

Their paths crossed once again in the San Francisco Bay Area, where they were finally able to work their best material into a full band format. The rhythm section consists of Emir Simbirdi on drums and Jochen Straub on bass. Emir is an experienced bay area drummer, who has backed many independent SF bands, and played area venues such as Slims SF, and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Jochen, who relocated to California from Germany, also has extensive live experience, and capably fills out the bottom end with his intuitive, sinuous basslines.

Now as Wish Inflicted, they have come together to form their ideal project, an original acoustic-electric indie rock band with strong songwriting, dynamic arrangements, and solid vocal harmonies.
