"Witch Ever brought it's A game"

Toronto band Witch Ever brought it’s A-game to Kensington Station on February 16 and it was a real jaw-dropper of a show for those of us able to have found our way there despite the labyrinth of high snow banks. Absolutely nothing went wrong and they simply rocked in the most exquisite set I have ever heard them play.

If you haven't heard Witch Ever I can describe their sound as being kind of bouncy, having an almost circular composition but all of it is consistent with what the Gods of Rock & Roll would recognize and embrace fully as their own. A blending of so many influences creates an aural hybrid immediately identifiable with the genre but not really with any specific time or place.

The arrangements subtly weave together a slight recalculation of the most appealing elements of the genre. The straight-ahead approach seems to reject that which is whimsical or avant-garde. It also happens to get crowds tapping their feet, moving their heads or full out dancing around.

Witch Ever - The Drake

Assume the air-guitar position, the band captures that classic-rock spirit, driving guitar-riffs, a thunderous sound so majestic and inspiring, a real treat for those who long for Q-107, long-hair, and leather-jackets. Burning, balls-out, and smokin'. For those about to rock, we salute you. Let Witch Ever show you the way.

"Witch Ever quickly won me over ."

Witch Ever first came to my attention a couple of months back when their track, The Push, ended up in my mailbox. Trippy, loud, and delightfully rough around the edges, The Push quickly won me over to the Witch Ever way of doing things. The long and short of it is Witch Ever are straight ahead rock and roll, played loud and with no strings pulled. In fact, I was impressed enough with the band to include them in my Music From the Inbox feature over at Alan Cross’ site last month.

As we speak, Witch Ever are busy as Gretsch-slinging beavers hunkered down at The Rogue studios in Toronto, where they are brewing up their ‘heavy on the analog’ debut album with the help of producer James Paul. Head Witch Stephen Sirisko tells me that Witch Ever’s legendary musical influences like John Lee Hooker and lesser known bluesmen like Junior Kimbrough are being cross-bred with the likes of guitar maestro Jeff Beck and even former Oasis honcho Noel Gallagher, the latter two having left a memorable impression on Sirisko after having seen them in concert.

Enough talk. More rock. Witch Ever, show ‘em how it’s done. - Thats Funky awesome

"Witch Ever 2 %"

Album: Unreleased

Brash and a little rough around the edges only adds to the appeal of Witch Ever’s “2%”. Vocals so scratchy they lead you to believe they might have been recorded into a cheese grater. This is a good thing, by the way.

Sounds like: The bastard offspring of Hendrix’s Voodoo Chile and early years Husker Du. - Alan Cross

"Witch Ever rocks out at the Horseshoe !"

Witch Ever is a Toronto-based 3-piece fronted by Stephen Sirisko. He is joined by his son Cal on guitar and Ken Boville on drums. The band caught my attention when they sent us this video for “The Push,” which is full of Toronto imagery, as well as some G20 footage. With such a bold video, I was curious about their live set.

The band kicked off an indie music night at the Horseshoe with their powerful rock and roll. They drew a decent-sized crowd and made sure to deliver a memorable set to those who made the effort to show up early. Sirisko had several attention-grabbing guitar solos, while predominantly on lead vocals revealing his gritty, passionate vocals. With such energy and a confident stage presence, it’s no wonder why the crowd seemed to dig it.

Witch Ever has been filming a documentary, some of which was filmed at the Horseshoe. If you happen to catch them live, perhaps your enjoyment of the set will be documented as well.

"Toronto music scene ...The spirit of the thing"

Toronto band WITCH EVER brought its' A game to Kensington Station Feb 16 2008 .

I can describe them as consistent with the Gods of Rock. A blending of so many influences .

That which emerges is an aural hybrid immediately identifiable but not with any specific time or place .

The straight ahead approach seems to reject that which is whimsical or avante guard . It also happens to get crowds tapping their feet , moving their heads or full out dancing around .

Stephen Sirisko has a kind of Roger Daultry quality . There is a husky and angry touch which suggests a pitbull catching site of a mailman . He also accompanies himself with some marvelous and inventive guitar playing .

The familiar rhythm section drive and versatile keyboardist/ rhythm guitarist gives their overall melodic structure an uncommon depth . This outfit combines a workmanlike efficiency with eloquence in their instrumentation.

The arrangements weave together a slight recalculation of the most appealing elements of the classic rock genre .

You cant miss it . - Jason Daniel Baker

"Witch Ever" deliver their intense sound and undeniable character when performing at Toronto's core clubs, such as: The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in the "Saturday Night Slot" as well as Lee's Palace, The Drake Hotel and The Bovine Sex Club . The band continues to garner shows across Ontario on the indie circuit and are working on C.O.C.A. showcase opportunities to develop the act into the National College & University market in Canada.

The Johnny Cash, Jimi Page and Jack White influences are apparent in their energetic, high intensity, alternative rock. Witch Ever incorporates vintage tube amps and classic Gretsch sounds to deliver rockin' rhythms that make a body move. Their tasteful dose of Psychedelia is polished with soaring guitar work. Melodic vocals create a clear connection with the audience in a dynamic live show. The band has an original sound and distinct personality that draws people to the stage front.

Their two amazing videos are available on high definition DVD and are the precursor to what aspires to be a brilliant debut album, due for release in the spring of 2012 .
