Bio

WOLFY FUNK PROJECT [W.F.P.] were formed in the summer of 2007 based on the needs of three musicians (D. Giotakis, K. Stamou, A. Diamantopoulos) to suit their musical pursuits. Adapting their personal sound to melodies and rhythms of familiar and non-familiar songs, from a wider musical range, but also creating their own compositions using as its main component the aggressive (“wolfy” as they name it) funk rhythm, started performing live in clubs, bars, music festivals and stages all across Athens. At the end of 2008, Nancy SiM (vocals) and Dimitris Faris (tenor sax & keys) joined the band. Melodic lyrics and MC-ing in addition with the harmonic keys and the power of the horn, boosts WFPs current particular style, rehearsing new songs and performing more “wolfy” funky gigs.

By the end of February 2010, one of the founding members of the band, the guitarist Dimitris Giotakis, decided to retire from WFP's music life, for personal reasons. His contribution was catalytic and his musical personality was impressed in the WFP style and it was the one that made it even more specific. Hoping to rejoin the band someday, WFP wishes him good luck in his future endeavors. This unexpected drift lead the band to redefine its form and detach from its musical routine for a while trying to find the right ingredient that would make a difference in the Athens music scene during that period.

In June 2010, the percussionist, Nick Martziokas (who is collaborating with many bands and artists in Greece) joined the band and gave the band the component that was missing. Following Nancy's withdrawal in the summer of 2011, due to her other musical obligations, WFP decided to continue their course as a project, performing live with guest musicians, proving once again the plurality of their music. Rehearsing new songs, experimenting with sounds and tunes, finally the band got to its current form and started performing live once again.

The new style, additional to the diversity of the sound and their music reports to famous artists, makes WFP’s show particular and they hope that this will be mixed into Athens daily music life.
