"CDbaby editor review by Brad"

Featured on the front page of CDbaby 8/18 - 8/20

Featuring 14 songs by a diverse group of artists, this compilation is filled with individual voices, each with a unique style, that are all united for a worthy cause. Domestic violence isn't the simplest subject to tackle as far as songwriting goes, but these women manage to face it head on with grace and sensitivity.

While a song like "Freedom" by Evonne Rivera adopts a positively upbeat approach that kicks off the album wonderfully, "Close To My Limit Of You" by Linda Geleris uses a more somber approach, putting the listener inside the mind of a woman who is at a dire crossroads in her life. The other songs follow suit, some strikingly hopeful and optimistic, others empathetic and understanding of how hard it can be to make sense of these tragic situations.

While the tracks all differ in their lyrical and topical approaches, the women wisely used the same studio and top notch backing musicians for all of the songs, giving the record a fluidity that is rarely seen in compilation records. Taking on rock, folk, blues, and hints of country, these talented singers, songwriters, and musicians never miss a beat. In the spirit of these sincere and heartfelt songs, a percentage of proceeds from the sale of this album will be donated to domestic violence shelters.

NOTE: CD baby states they receive 200 – 250 CD per day. They sell CDs for approximately 100,000 independent artists, and currently have 190,000 for sale. They told us this is one of the best CDs they have ever heard!!

WOMEN ON THE MOVE – August 8, 2009

It was a wonderful night of music that really connected our audience with the amazingly entertaining musical variety that is “Acoustic L.A.-LIVE!”

WOMEN on the MOVE (WoM) -- the acoustic power trio of singer/songwriters Joan Enguita, Linda Geleris, and Trish Lester -- beautifully illustrated the axiom "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." Each is both a strong songwriter and solo performer, but as Linda, Joan, and Trish each took the spotlight in turn, the others provided back-up and harmony vocals that blended solo artist into mini-chorale.

Their vocal enhancements ranged from doo-wop accents to string-like smoothness, and when the trio united to sing as one voice in three-part harmony, the effect was magical; three distinct voices merged into one angelic blend. Add the variety of three individual songwriters whose mutual respect was evident, and the result was two sets of great entertainment.

"Audience Review"

"Women on the Move" is at once a name, a description and a statement. This trio draws on generations of womanly whimsy to musically explore love and the soulful challenges of life. Drawing on the material of such luminaries as Joni Mitchell and adding dashes of personal reflections they entertain with harmonious originality laced with nostalgia. Their music is folksy and story telling. Their original works feature songs as varied as a European country chart maker, an ode to a mother's unshared past and a resolute anthem of perseverance inspired by the headlines of suffering during Hurricane Katrina. These Women on the Move look good, sound good, harmoniously complement one another to make for a fun musical night out. Go see Women on the Move. - Audience Member

"Singer/Songwriters Become Beautiful"

By Dan Kimpel

Heart, soul and purpose: a cross section of female singer/songwriters dubbed “Women on the Move” lend their voices to Beautiful, a CD release from Red Coyote Records with a portion of the proceeds to benefit domestic violence shelters.
Among the many highlights are Joan Enguita’s title cut, and the sturdy vocals of Teresa James on two tracks. Other artists including Harriet Schock, Debbie Hennessey, Linda Geleris and Andrea Ross-Greene, deliver superb gems of songcraft to reinforce the collective themes of empowered womanhood.
The CD project is co-sponsored by Nashville Tracks in L.A. (www.NashvilleTracks.com), Los Angeles Women in Music (www.lawim.com); Universal Mastering (www.umusic.com); Kirk’s Graphics (www.kirks-graphics.com) and Disc Replicators International (www.discreplicators.com). Fall 2008 issue:

Beautiful by Women on the Move This is a compilation album by a variety of women and in a variety of music styles. Fourteen women from southern California, each with her own successes as independent musicians, have come together to make an album that reflects love, laughter, tears and empowerment. This CD project, both the CD itself and subsequent concerts, was made to benefit domestic violence shelters. But don’t be fooled – this CD is not about domestic violence. This is an uplifting CD meant to give women voices – strong voices meant to get us through the hard times and the good times. This is not a man bashing CD. If anything, given it’s countryish style, it affirms that there are good relationships, and women should not compromise themselves for a bad man, when, as the song “One Good Man” points out, there is a good man out there for you. The very next track “Take a Breath” is about leaving your man, but again, it does not either bash the man or victimize the woman. This album was performed by seasoned Nashville studio musicians, and you can here the twang in every song, even the one’s that are not country. This is a sweet album. Inevitably the album is about hope and resurrection. Each song has a different feel, as each song has a different singer/song writer. The concept is excellent and of course the cause is great. A portion of sales goes towards women's shelters and I recommend it if only for that reason. - online
