The Women Sekere Ensemble are percussionists dedicated to preserve and promote African music.
Founded and directed by Omomola Iyabunmi, the Ensemble performs traditional drumming and singing, and original compositions using beaded gourds called sekere and other African percussion instruments.
The Ensemble presents music found in Africa and other locals throughout the African diaspora in countries such as Cuba, Haiti, Brasil, and Puerto Rico.
The Philadelphia based group has performed locally and nationally at numerous museums, festivals, colleges, schools, conventions, libraries, nursing homes, retirement communities, weddings, luncheons, and dinners. The Ensemble continues to participate annually at the University of Pennsylvania museum of Archaeology and Anthropology
"Celebration of African Culture Day".
