"Northeast Performer spotlight"

...A spin through Wonderful Spells' debut is like taking a floppy-haired journey back through the world of shag carpeting and vintage instruments (before they were "vintage"). The sound is straight out of the Thin Lizzy era of rock: rollicking drums push a strong backbeat while the bass plunks out a solid, woody tone under the dual-guitar attack. It's a little fuzzy around the edges, a little buzzy in the corners and exquisitely visual.
-C.D. DiGuardia - Northeast Performer, Nov. '07

"Performer review of "Smarmulous Rex""

"...uniformly catchy...laden with dancing, exuberant bass lines that can't help but recall Of Montreal."
-Skylar Smith - Northeast Performer, Oct. '07

"The Noise review of "Smarmulous Rex""

"...the song 'Black Cat'...will probably stay stuck in my head until the day of my demise."
-Tim Emswiler - The Noise, Sept. '07

Bio

"After turning heads and swaying shoulders with last year's catchy-as-the-cold debut EP, 'The Prophecy of Smarmulous Rex', 2008 stands to be a breakout year for the Spells' dapper young lads. They've recently opened for everyone from The Stills to Apollo Sunshine, but the future arrives with a headliners call. Shit, these blokes are even better looking than your boyfriend."

Led by dueling singers Bo and Jamie Moore, the band are making waves in Boston with their far-out psych-pop sound.

They self-released their debut 5-song EP "The Prophecy of Smarmulous Rex" in May 2007. The band promoted the EP with a small Northeast tour in August.

"The Prophecy of Smarmulous Rex" is currently available at Newbury Comics, CD Baby, and Digstation. It can be heard on the myspacer for free. Our website is currently under construction.
