Bio

Wonfu was officially formed on the eve of Christmas 1998. Since then, the band has been consistently playing various large-size music festivals, including Spring Scream, Formoz Festival and Hohaiyan Rock Festival, as well as touring at many live venues, including Taipei The Wall, Under World, Riverside and Witch House.

Wonfu has won a few musical rewards over the years, including 2001 Yamaha Asian Beat (Dupy was the Best Drummer in the North District) and 2002 Hohaiyan Rock Festival’s Judge’s Choice Award. (Judge commented: “Wonfu’s songs are cute and delightful as children’s songs. They seem simple and full of humor but actually come with sophisticated thoughts and creativity.”) One of Wonfu’s songs was included in Rock Records’ compilation album, “18-Debut Album” in 2003, which propelled them to greater fame.

In 2003, Wonfu independently released its self-titled debut album, their music was warmly received by a huge amount of young fans. In 2004, Wonfu signed a recording deal with Forward Music and released their second album, officially stepping into Taiwan’s mainstream music market. The album won 2004 The Association of Music Workers in Taiwan’s Top 10 Albums, Top 10 Singles and they were nominated at the 16th Golden Melody Awards for Best Band. In the summer of 2005, Wonfu released their third album “Wonfu Magazine” Their retro musical style and outfits drew Japan’s Five D Records’ attention and thus released the album in Japan on April 2006 with a Japanese single, “DoReMi.” The exposure allowed them to be invited to perform at Mods Mayday in Japan, a great achievement in the country. “Wonfu Magazine” also won 2005 The Association of Music Workers in Taiwan’s Top 10 Album and were once again nominated for Best Band at The 17th Golden Melody Awards.
