"Woodrose"

Somewhere along the line, Jonny Woodrose & the Broken-Hearted Woodpeckers transformed into Woodrose. Along with the change in name came a marked shift in sound. Rather than the poetic Americana of Jonson Kuhn's previous efforts, this album comes straight out of a run-down honky-tonk frequented by Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, before either toned down the political content of their music. At least that's what "Federal Taxes" sounds like. On the surface, these songs sound like straightforward Southern rock until each unfolds into something very different. "Electric Chair" waxes into dusky, dreamy territory and back into husky blues rock — kind of like The Stars Are Insane-era Versus copping an early Allman Brothers vibe. With One In, One Out, Kuhn and his mates have recast themselves as a soulful and introspective rock-and-roll band. - Denver Westword

Bio

Jonson Kuhn was stranded in a little mountain town called Garberville, California with nothing but a guitar, a voice and a will. It was here Jonny Woodrose was born. Shortly thereafter he was joined by the band's current line up Charlie Woodrose, on lead guitar, Al Woodrose, on bass and drummer, O'Malley Woodrose.
Woodrose is rock and roll from another time infused with contemporary textures. Soulful and imaginative lyrics soar through the raw and explosive vocals of Jonny Woodrose, rooted in blues, rock, and utter pure spirit. Each of the Woodrose boys brings so much energy and an eclectic mix to each beat, that watching them is a show in and of itself, and this show is what the Woodrose boys live for.
