"Woody @ The Social 03.12.06"

Over the last few months we've seen a return to 'melody' in rock music and one of the latest exponents is Nottingham's Woody.

The roots of the band were laid down after a chance meeting between drummer, Anthony Allcock and John 'Woody' Leonard.

John will be remembered for his work in Seven Little Sisters. The line-up is completed by Paul Robinson on keyboards, Adam Fuller on bass and JJ Squires on 'atmospherics'.

Last Sunday night at The Social they paraded their work to an enthusiastic audience.

Many bands hit you with a wall of sound to kick off their set. Woody showed a maturity of confidence with an almost acoustic song "Last King".

Then they hit you with their up tempo 'Stars'. I found myself held by the variety of composition, well thought out arrangements and strong attractive melodies.

John Leonard has a disarming stage presence and can play a mean guitar, when appropriate, and Robbo's beautifully intricate keyboards underscored the set perfectly.

Woody may be just a sapling in our Nottingham forest but I believe they are destined to become a Major Oak.

Bio

Bringing glass-hearted-alt-country-soundscapes to life...

After a chance meeting between Anthony and John in early 2006, Woody was formed with the concept of playing music they loved and wanted to hear. Quickly joined by Adam Fuller, Paul 'Robbo' Robinson and JJ Squires, they started to craft and hone their musical influences into the Woody sounds of today.

They have just completed their debut album 'Avenues' which will be released on Independent Rosco Records in January 2008.

With European dates booked for 2008, the sound and spirit of Woody is due to spread around the globe.

And for those that want to try and define them, 'its like listening to layers of Indie sparkled alt-country rock, tinged with east to west coast bareass roots', pretty much as perfect as it gets!

Being described as 'sitting crossed legged somewhere between Fanclub, Wilco and Ryan Adams', Woody are fast becoming one of the most promising and interesting bands around today.
