Bio

WORD formed around February 2009 with the intention of jamming and nothing more; however, after realizing the potential of the group, we all decided to take the band seriously. Due to our busy school schedules WORD held weekly practices on Fridays and Saturdays concentrating on generating original songs, the first being Dove. After graduating from high school during summer 2010, we all have moved on to college attending universities such as University of Houston, University of St. Thomas, and University of Phoenix. During the spring semester of 2011 WORD decided to make an EP which was completed March of 2011. Since then, WORD, along with some helpful friends and fans, have been advertising for gigs, EPs and other memorabilia.
WORD has several influences including: Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Fuel, The Beatles and many others. Although each band member has their distinct tastes and preferences regarding music, we all, through trust and love of music, come together to formulate what WORD is now, fun, catchy, and new.
Several characteristics set WORD apart from other groups currently playing. Lauren Pierce's voice can only be described as soulful, rich and full of wisdom comparable to that of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and other notable soul, R&B and jazz singers. John Goodrich's unmistakable genius can not be denied having played bass and guitar for over 10 years. Mark White of the Spin Doctors described John as someone who has "been through a lot" and it "shows through his instrument". Patrick, Kevin and Alex have been best friends since 1st grade creating an effective and trusting chemistry when playing live allowing for multiple interpretations of already set songs ultimately enabling the entire group to have fun while playing. Ted, a new comer to WORD, has an undeniable passion for music and adds a new perspective to how WORD approaches melodies, rhythms, and overall sound, while inserting his uplifting yet powerful voice.
Countless groups or bands exist today, some may say too much, but WORD is different. WORD has a peculiar and recognizable persona concerning, but not confined to, their sound, stage presence and ambiance. WORD has much to say and not just about nothing, but everything.
