Considered to be a youngster with an old soul, he creates real music gaining himself prominence nationwide and internationally. He likes to refer to himself as the "leader of the modern era". Wordplay knows not only the culture but knows the true essence of HIP-HOP he is who Is next. Although rapping became his first love Wordplay proudly handles the title of songwriter for R&B and Pop music with ease. At a young age Wordplay begun to write poetry with inspirations from his mother Jeannie Dunn who often wrote poetry ,Dr. Seuss , and his 2nd then 4th grade elementary school teacher. His household was very big on listening to all genres of music so at a early age music became not just a sound but a way of life for him. Hip Hop had the most impact on him simply because his youngest sister's former boyfriend Kenneth Stewart aka Lazarus listened to Hip-Hop on a daily basis with his Sony Walkman CD player which he often lent to Wordplay. In addition Lazarus was a lyricist himself he brought Wordplay along to numerous amounts of studio sessions in Hollis,Queens which Wordplay sat in on and witnessed many freestyle ,writing and recording sessions. These moments are very valuable to Wordplay which he holds to a high degree. The after effect of these events gave Wordplay structure and helped him capture a more advanced feel for Hip-Hop. Wordplay listened to emcee's and lyricist consistently he frequently will compare and contrast their lyrics. He quickly noticed that these lyricist weren't only connecting and rhyming words but he heard them telling stories about their personal life and their view points on current and past situations that went on around the world which Wordplay found to be very amazing. He was introduced to Hip Hop by listening to some of the greats such as Nas, Rakim , Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane ,Mc Shan ,Krs-One, Wu-Tang Clan, Grandmaster Flash & the Furious 5, Jay-z, Biggie Smalls, Big L, Mos Def ,Talib Kweli, Heavy D,Beastie Boys, De La Soul , Mc lyte, Mc Serch , Queen Latifah, A Tribe Called Quest, N.W.A , Leaders of the new school, Busta rhymes, Mase, Craig Mack ,The Roots, Arrested Development,The Fugees, Pharcyde, Mobb Deep, Pete Rock and Cl Smooth, Soul Mischief, Naughty By Nature , EpMD, LL Cool J, Run Dmc, Big Pun, Eminem, 50cent, 2pac Shakur and many more. In 2004 Wordplay was 11 years of age and in the 5th grade. Lazarus gave Wordplay a present which just happened to be the College Drop out EP. It featured 2 tracks Kanye West's single "Through The Wire" and the instrumental version. After his first listen he instantly fell in love. He kept the song on repeat vibing to the witty metaphors of Kanye West. By the end of the first week after receiving the cd he knew the song by verbatim. This was the breakthrough which inspired Wordplay to write his first rap to the upcoming artist Kanye West's hit single "Through The Wire" instrumental. With no way to obtain studio time Wordplay improvised and used his mothers Coby stereo boom box , he stole his mothers tape cassettes to record his vocals with a Coby microphone that he brought from his neighborhood electronics shop with the allowance he had earned and saved from doing chores.
