BandRockArt Rock

An infectiously fun jazzy, bluesy, ska-fused, dance your pants off rock ‘n’ roll soundscape, like the side show at the circus but with high kicks, trombone, and musical saw!

Biography

Working Breed is a scintillating quartet that writes original and eclectic Art Rock full of surprises.  Frontwoman and multi-instrumentalist Erika June Christina Laing leads the audience through a jazzy, bluesy, ska-fused, dance your pants off rock ‘n’ roll soundscape built as Michael Dugan rips searing guitar solos and groove master Jonah ‘Gingerale Jones’ Petrelli lays down the bass. All of this sits atop Jeremy Papay, who is hot off the circus circuit and brings theatrical elements and precision drumming. The result is an engaging performance unlike any other as the audience is continuously dazzled by the shifting nature of the music and playful incorporation of instruments often atypical to a rock group, such as trombone, trumpet, musical saw, synthy keys, and more.  Since their inception in 2014 they've played over 100 shows as they've headlined local festivals and opened for national touring acts such as Wild Child, Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas, Low Cut Connie, and Start Making Sense (Talking Head Tribute).  Their adventurous energy is infectious, and their performance an experience!

Orange Fluff

Written By: Erika June Christina Laing

He wants my orange fluff
And all the other
Good stuff
But he will wait till tomorrow
Surface Surface
Surface Surface
He dreams of dry land and a mind without quarrel

A long shot punter
Turned into a mug
A lone shark hunter
With other's hearts, Oh yeah
Surface Surface
Surface Surface
He dreams of dry land and to breathe without pressure

He wants my orange fluff
But its no easy task
To get my orange fluff
He must take off his mask
Surface Surface
Surface Surface
He dreams of dry land and to breathe without pressure

The wet walls he sees above
A shadow amongst rain drops rippling on his ceiling
The wet walls, they lower onto his face,
They slow to suck him in, swallowing his head whole in a snatch
In the darkness he feels the coral fans
Tickling his feet as he is pulled away
He struggles, she cries, 'Surface! Surface!'
He chooses shallow waters, and she cries, ‘Surface! Surface!’
Desperate to sink, he swims
But knowing not why
And the coral fans, they wave goodbye, goodbye, goodbye….

Ohhhhhh --- He wants my orange fluff and all the other good stuff
More than to sink, this man wants to feel the real love
In and out -- up and down -- though
I know that he’ll always hear the call of the coral
But he dreams of dry land of a mind without quarrel

MoFoRoRo

Written By: Jonah Petrelli

Plans a pending, are never ending
So look to me, my hand’s extending
It’s not to have, Its just for lending
Cuz on a journey
Is where I’m sending you, yeah you
To mother fuckin rock and roll
To mother fuckin rock and roll

A child’s love is never ending
So smell the glove, and stop pretending
That the lights aren’t hot
That the strings aren’t bending
Because its true
And now I’m sending you, yeah you
To mother fuckin rock and roll
To mother fuckin rock and roll

So get on stage
We’ll jump through fire
We’ll get tattoos
AND BLAST LIVE WIRRRRRRRE
From town the town
We’ll never tire
Cuz we fulfilled
Our true desire
For you, yeah you
To mother fuckin rock and rolllll
To mother fuckin rock and roll

Let me tell you how its done…

Set your amp to 10
And don’t wear earplugs
Play a sold out show
Then find a hot tub
Fill it with babes
Then get a little love rub
Get up the next day
And hit another rock club

Oooooh, that’s mother fucking rock and roll
Yeah that’s mother fucking rock and rollllllllllllll

That’s mother fuckin rock and roll.

My Chimera

Written By: Erika June Christina Laing

She is a song with no ending
She is a harp with fresh strings
She is a permanent coda
At once she is all of these things

She’s my chimera
But no one can hear her but me

She splinters my eye with her light
Her feminine chakra’s bright pink
She is a black hole for lovers
She disappears when you blink

She’s my chimera
But no one can see her but me

I got hope to remember
I got dreams to forget
I’ve got pain, pain
With my hands in my pockets
My lips zippered closed
It’s a limb on my body, I just can’t let go

It’s hard to acknowledge
But deep down I know
My chimera can’t help me anymore

Her body is dust in a sunray
Her dance is a breeze on my cheek
She is the hair that grows in my legs
When the day is cold, windy, and bleak

She’s my chimera

No one can feel her but me

Folle de Toi

Written By: Erika June Christina Laing,Chelsea Attwood

Un, deux, un, deux, trois

Et tu es parfait pour ce soir

I noticed you from across the room
Je suis chaud pour vous
Was it my perfume that lead you to my room?
Tournez a gauche, tournez a droit
And then I was alone

I remember you, your werewolf calling in the night
Somehow your petite chou chou by morning light
Yes, its true, je te fais une pipe
But that doesn't mean that I'm yours to keep
You're a hue of blue that I cannot rouge into my cheek

Je suis folle de toi
Je ne suis pas folle de toi
Je suis folle de toi
Je ne suis pas folle de toi
Je suis folle de toi
Je ne suis pas folle de toi

Et tu es parfait pour ce soir
Parfait pour ce soir
Parfait pour ce soir
Parfait pour ce soir

Je suis folle de toi
Je ne suis pas folle de toi
Je suis folle de toi
Je ne suis pas folle de toi
Je suis folle de toi
Je ne suis pas folle de toi

Et tu es parfait pour ce soir
