""A WONDERFUL MIX OF WELL KNOWN SONGS""

Now this is what i would call a real collection of gospels and spirituals.

Solely responsible for (the music) is a certain daria, or, if you prefer, her full name...Daria Maramluk-Hajioannou , who presents us with a wonderful mix of well-known songs from, among other places, ...South America, Israel, Africa, Australi and more.

I have here two of a total of three children's music CD's which have been lovingly recorded on traditional instruments. these offer much to admire.

Even though it says "World Music For Children," even adults will certainly find this music enjoyable, especially when you consider the lyrics.

Bio

Called "an ambassador of song", by US newspapers, Daria has traveled around the world to create music that uplifts and empowers. A multiple NAPPA and “Parent’s Choice” winner, her music is played around the world from Australia, to South Africa, to Europe and South America as well as across the USA.  Raves the Christian Science Monitor: “When Daria Marmaluk-Hajioannou makes music, the world listens– literally! “

In concert, Daria shares a wonderful mixture of favorite songs from American and world folk music traditions. She introduces authentic instruments from around the world and allows the audience to take part in playing them – from Buffalo and Pueblo drums to shékeres, cajón, washboard, guiros, handbells, doumbek, chapchas and much more. During the show she presents songs in a variety of languages; including English, Spanish, Arabic, Hebrew, Zulu, German, Quechua Indian and Oneida (Iroquois) and includes best-loved songs such as “La Bamba” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”. Her live performances are popular at major art centers, festivals, venues, schools and other locations. In addition to her live concerts, Daria also offers workshops, residencies and community workshops for exploring these exciting and diverse musical traditions.

Along with bilingual versions of popular world music songs,  Daria’s “I Have A Dream” Song is used widely to celebrate MLK Day.  Her Earth Day anthem “We’ve Got The Whole World In Our Hands” is used in the USA as well as in Singapore and Japan and China.  Her “Beautiful Rainbow World” song is used in Australia as part of a “Respecting Others” curriculum for preschoolers as well as in South African schools as part of a “Teach Tolerance” initiative.  Daria’s live show is fully interactive as she brings a variety of exciting world traditions to life, allowing children to become a part of the celebration and the fun of exploring world cultures.

Daria Marmaluk-Hajioannou received a Pennsylvania Council On The Arts Arts Commentary Award administrated by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council.
