"Wreck's Worlds get 3.9/5 on Hip Hop Universe Blog"

Ok for my first review of an unsigned artist on this blog.
Being from NY, I can always appreciate a good NY artist. Wreck is from NY, and then again he isn't. Wreck1 hails out of the capital district in NY. For all of you out of staters, that is what they call the region around the capital of Albany. Wreck1 considers himself the ultimate do it yourself emcee. He writes his own lyrics, he makes his own beats, and books his own tour. Wreck1 started out as a battle emcee and eventually got into recording at 16. In just short 5 years, at the age of 21, he has already tour the U.S, opened for Nas, touched down in Canada, and performed two shows in Europe. Enough with the background info, time for the album.

Wreck1's World is 16 tracks long. (14 songs, and an intro/outro) So right off the beat we have a real meaty album song wise with no skits other than the intro and outro. The album contains a constant "me against the industry" attitude through out the whole album. Wreck1 shows that he is new school while also paying homage to those that came before him. (Very rare amongst artists today) His best attributes come within his imagery and his creative (almost cartoon like) way of explaining things. Wreck1 shines best when he pits himself againt an opponent as he does on the "Peanuts Theme" sampled Beans N Rice. As he commands todays rap artists to "get their spoons out, it's time to be force fed." He fires rhymes off back to back saying "the game is wack ass rappers/ and half assed actors/ and half aint even fit to be my back up dancers/ Im hip hops cancer/ smack the world off its axis/ tactless back packers/ are watchin the pack master/ ". Wreck1 shows great signs of story telling on the Journey sampled, Hurt so Bad as he describes the pain of a typical American family with duck on a pond image. On the Wyshmaster produced, Through These Baby Blues, Wreck again finds himself taking on the rap game, describing his vision of the industry through out this song with a pretty good feature from Shordy Tears. Wreck1 really impresses me with the way he spits "Ima real lyricist with big dreams/ not just some/ carbon copy with a get rich quick scheme/ imf beats/ part of a disguise/ Hip hop is dead/ who the fuck am I to argue with Nas/". Lyrically I think this kid is great with many years to still perfect his craft.

The only downfall I see on this album is the instrumental production. The beats individually are good, but they sound scattered like a mixtape when put on the same cd. With production from himself, Scotty Beams, and Wyshmaster, you can clearly tell the difference between who is making the beats. The album production would have been much better if some of the instrumentals were kept off of the cd.

TRACK BY TRACK BREAK DOWN -

1. Intro - Flipping through some tv stations, a few cartoons, the news, short and sweet.

2. Mind of A Madman (produced by Wreck1) - Very epic sample. Beat could have been done better. Very creative with some pretty quote worthy punchlines. "With a sick swagger/ I swing daggers/ rolling stone like mick jagger/ slept on get ya no doz/ ima sick bastard/ yank the earth from underneath you and flip backwards into the ozone/ (3.5/5)

3. Beans N Rice (produced by Wreck1) - I like the Peanuts sample. Done very well. Lyrics are great through out the entire songs. I like how he pays homage to an NY great with "if you from NY and aint heard 'Ready to Die'/ trying to be a lyricist? You must be ready to die/" (4.5/5)

4. Through These Baby Blues feat. Shordy Tears (produced by Wyshmaster) - One of the few Wyshmaster beats that I feel fits in with the mood of the album. Both verses from Wreck1 on this are The Source Hip Hop quoteable material. He heavily outshines his feature on this track. "They cosigning wack shit/ they next to brittney/ on the pop charts and got nerve saying they runnin' this rap shit/ if you ask me/ the game need practice/ when the best rapper on they cd was the plastic/" (5/5)

5. Don't Need a Dance (produced by Wyshmaster) - This is probably the most catchiest track on the album, and the most commercial. Wreck1 comedically pokes fun at all the rappers making dance songs on this track. This is a beat I feel doesnt fit on the album, but I dont see this type of track going on any other type of track. (3.5/5)

6. 518 (produced by Wyshmaster) - The beat on this track is hot. I just dont feel like it fits with all the other songs. An ode to the area code 518 (which is the capital region in upstate, NY) Wreck boast that that the next big thing will be out of the 518. I dont see this song getting performed much on tour, although it is a good track. (3.5/5)

7. Fuck You (produced by Scotty Beams) - I have heard this Eddie Kendricks sample done on the Shyne album, but I like the way this was done better. Again Wreck1 pits himself against the industry as he boasts himself the best while spitting "Im a bitch taster/ mild manner risk taker/ rap game in a holocaust/ ado - Darin
