wrest plays heavy, anthemic post-punk

Biography

Wrest came together in the summer of 2004, a convergence of four friends looking to make their own musical statement.

Rehearsing and recording together in a cramped and sweaty Lower East Side basement, the band created a sound that reflected their gritty environment - a war cry of anthemic vocals, ragged guitars and a thundering rhythm section.

In the past year, the band has performed its heavy, melodic math rock all over the city, at such venues as the Mercury Lounge, the Delancey and the Rockstar Bar, with bands like Fiction Plane, Pela and Swain. Live, the band is a precise, hypnotic force, engulfing the room with their gigantic and unswerving melodic energy.

With influences as diverse as Genesis, The Misfits, Failure and Swervedriver, their style remains unmistakably their own: hook-filled art-rock that cuts deeper and surer with each listen.
