"Cd review W.Victor "Love songs out of tune""

W.Victor "Love songs out of tune" Taikonaut rec

Zo dachten wij bij ‘Can’t Tame The Devil In Me’ onwillekeurig aan Herman van Veen en dat is niét ons idee van a good time. It’s cold and dark in Siberia/(...)/don’t send me to Siberia’ – blíjft ons dwars zitten. Bring on the good news!

"Cd review W.Victor "Rotto""

HOMEGROWN
W.VICTOR 'Rotto' Ottokar rec

The opening track instantly raises the right questions:
Is this Tom Waits singing old Italian songs? Is it Paolo Conte playing Nino Rota ?
Is it a new stunt by Adriano Celentano, author of "Prisencolinensinainciusol?
None of this.
W. Victor is Belgian.
He previously released a number of weird albums and continues on going his own way.
The gimmick of the Italian crooner is extremely successful.
The fanfare and uncontrolled "hoempapa" reminds me
of Think Of One and the Antwerp Gipsy-Ska Orkestra ,
thanks to Roel Poriau who co-produced and mixed the album.
Fun all along the way, thanks to the hilarious lyrics.
Think of all this: "De Nieuwe snaar" (Flemish most popular crazy folk)
joined by Monty Python watching the classic film "Hellzapoppin'' on the schoolbus to the Balkans.
An excellent soundtrack for a long hot summer. (GTB) - rifraf 05-11

Bio

After a career as a drummer in several Belgian bands (Survivors of the Titanic, Milk the bishop, Schwarzwaldklinik,,,) he decided to go further as W.Victor and to release his own songs.
Assisted by five excellent musicians (see instrumentation), he quickly made a great live reputation in Belgium and abroad.

With four albums already to his name (discography) W. Victor is constantly working on his own European songbook. Although carried by the new wave of Balkan folk, W.Victor continues his own course with his typical “multiple language" texts and “non-orthodox” instrumentation.

He also did a lot of recording-productions of several Belgian artists (Think of one, La femme Belge,,,)
