CAPTAIN SMASH and the Shady Stash

Introducing Captain Smash and the Shady Stash, the Melbourne based funk n’ soul outfit led by vocalist and creator, Sacha Pollard (aka Captain Smash). Their raw and quirky sound is a fusion of the bands extensive musical training and a love of everything with 'cheese', drawing inspiration from pop, r n' b, gospel and soul. Captain Smash and the Shady Stash are set to release their much anticipated debut EP entitled, Turbo Fromagio.

Formed in 2006 as an outlet for experimentation and appreciation of each others music, the members of the Shady Stash have played alongside some big acts including Alice Russell, Rene Geyer and The Bamboos to name a few. Front woman, Sacha Pollard’s sublime and soulful voice acts as an instrument in itself… Growing up in a musical family certainly nourished this talent, her father being a composer and her mother a piano teacher and music therapist.

The band consists of Nic Lam (Guitar), Yuri Pavlinov (Bass) Sacha Pollard (Vocals), Luke Collins (Drums), Shannon Barnett, Alistair Parsons and Emily Mould (Trombone), Ainslie Wills, Nina Benvenutti, Zoe Kalenderidis, Joanna Lavell and Mezz Coleman (Backing Vocals). They have a rather unusual horn section consisting of three trombones, which give texture and drive to the bands insatiable soul grooves, overlaid by funky guitar licks and rhythmic harmonies, a delectable fusion of sound is created.

Captain Smash and the Shady Stash received a ‘Buzz Grant’ from The Foundation for Young Australians to complete their debut EP, Turbo Fromagio. The EP was a good twelve months in the making and was recorded at the “House of Chunk” by Jarrad Brown (bass player for The Custom Kings). The recording was all done in Brown’s bedroom with a gospel choir which included some interesting characters, two of them being Pollard’s parents! The EP exhibits the bands many talents and encapsulates the smooth soul inspired sound they convey at their live shows.
