Wonders of the World

Written By: Wynn Teasley

Wonders of the World© Wynn Teasley, February 14, 2007

The assignment for the class:
list the wonders of the world
A task pretty easy
for most smart boys and girls
They included the Panama Canal, St. Peter’s, the Taj Mahal
The pyramids of Egypt
and China’s Great Wall

But one young girl hadn’t finished and the teacher wondered why
There're so many things, she said, it’s too hard to decide.
The teacher asked that student to read her list to the class
And maybe they could all help her finish it at last

No one else had listed
what that little girl had said
To hear her favorite song
and see the sunset on the bay
To touch her fuzzy puppy,
to have friends when she played
To laugh out loud, and most of all, to feel love every day

Silence filled the classroom
on that morning in the Fall
You could've heard a pin drop, even outside in the hall
No one else had guessed what that student had to say
Simple wonders most folks
take for granted every day

The grandest buildings in the world won't mean near as much
Without those great wonders
of sight, hearing and touch
And love is much more wonderful, she seemed to understand
Than something you could name that was built by human hands

No one else had listed
what that little girl had said
To hear her favorite song
and see the sunset on the bay
To touch her fuzzy puppy,
to have friends when she played
To laugh out loud, and most of all, to feel love every day

To laugh out loud, and most of all, to feel love every day.

V1

My daughter threw some starfish back into the sea
First one and then another as we walked down the beach
I asked her if it mattered to save a few of them from dyin'
She picked up two more starfish; looked me in the eye ... and said

C1

It matters to this one for another chance to grow
They just need a little help, don't you see?
And it matters to this one, I want to help them all and I know
I can make a difference so...it matters to me

V2

She grew up to be a teacher who taught a special class
Of disadvantaged youth strugglin' just to pass
I asked her if it mattered ... all the hard work that she did
She said, "yes, and it's a blessing… Working with these kids…and

C2

It matters to Joseph, for another a chance to grow
They just need a little help, don't you see?
And it matters to Katie, I want to help them all… and I know
I can make a difference so ...it matters to me

V3

A story on the news today... three children left alone
A fire took their mom and dad and everything they owned
I dialed the number on the screen... I really had no choice
Because I thought about my daughter and clearly heard her voice...say

C3

It matters to this one for another chance to grow
They just need a little help, don't you see?
And, it matters to this one... I want to help them all and I know
I can make a difference so...it matters to me...it matters to me

Our Country

Our Country
Wynn Teasley © July 17, 2008

From freezin' snow at Valley Forge
To hell at Gettysburg
Brave men fought and gave their lives
So freedom could be heard
In later years, the call rang out
Clear across the sea
Again men fought for freedom
‘Cause freedom is not free

Chorus
This is our country, mountains to the sea
This is our country, birthplace of liberty
This is our country, land of the free
This is our country, home for you and me

Washington, Lincoln, Kennedy and King
Though out our history
Leaders long remembered
In the search for liberty
They led the way for others
Who heard that call as well
And boldly took their turn
Ringing freedom's bell

Bridge
They had the vision to see what must be done
Heroes that paid the price for the freedoms that they won

We owe the privilege that we share
In our democracy
To all who make the sacrifice
To keep our people free
And honor those who lead the charge
The courage that they show
To keep the dream alive
The audacity of hope

Repeat Chorus

Yeah, this is our country, home for you and me

It Matters to Me 2009

Written By: Wynn Teasley and Larry Book

My daughter threw some starfish back into the sea
There were hundreds of them stranded all along the beach
I asked her if it mattered to save a few of them from dying
She picked up two more starfish, look me in the eye and said

It matters to this one for another chance to grow
As she threw another starfish back to sea
And it matters to this one, I can’t save them all, I know
But it matters to them, so … it matters to me

She grew up to be a teacher who taught a special class
Of disadvantaged students struggling just to pass
I asked her if it mattered all the hard work that she did
She said, “Yes, and it’s a blessing working with these kids, cause

It matters to Joseph for another chance to grow
To be whatever he can ever be
And, it matters to Katie, I can’t do it all alone, I know
But it matters to them, so … it matters to me

A story on the news today, a family lost its home
A fire burned it to the ground with everything they owned
I dialed the number on the screen, I really had no choice
‘Cuz I thought about my daughter, and I could hear her voice, say

It matters to the children for another chance to grow
To be whatever they can ever be
And, it matters to the fam’ly, they can’t do it all alone, I know
But it matters to them, so … it matters to me

Oh, it matters to them, so … it matters to me
