Biography - Xave Brown

Western Australia's Xave Brown is a singer songwriter of highly original music that travels in surprising and unexpected directions. Xave's acoustic tunes are driven by complex rhythms, intricate finger picking and vocals that switch in an instant from a throaty growl to liquid honey.

As a solo performer or with his band , Xave voyages into the intimate and mellow as easily as the upbeat and dancable. Likened at times to Damien Rice, Ben Harper and Gomez, Xave cites his influences from a more vintage line of inspiration - Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits.

Xave has established himself as a highly regarded musician in the South West, playing regular gigs on the local and Perth circuits as well as at major festivals including; Fairbridge, Bridgetown Blues, Nannup Music Festival, Wignalls Vintage Blues Festival, Broome Shinju Festival and the Harbour Sound Festival.
Now based in Perth, Xave and is band are developing a strong city based following.

Xave's talents receive ongoing recognition from the music industry. His last album 'Whalebone Beach', has had two standout tracks receiving industry acclaim. His single ‘Call of the Wild' was nominated in the international Independant Music Awards 2008, the top five in the Australian Musicoz Awards 2007, won the 2006 WAM Regional Song of the Year and was included in the 2008 WAMI Compilation CD.

Whalebone Beach track, 'Winterwind' was nominated for Regional Song of the Year in the 2008 WAMI Awards.

Xave has won the Albany and regional semi final heats of The Next Big Thing and had title track off his CD “Black Smoke” included in the 2005 WAM compilation CD.

Keeping good company, Xave has supported some highly esteemed musicians such as Paul Kelly, The John Butler Trio, Xavier Rudd, Carus, Nathan Gaunt, Andrew Winton and Snowman. Xave has toured with The Kill Devil Hills, Ruby’s Grace and been part of two separate WAMI regional tours.

Xave recorded and produced his first album Black Smoke at his home studio in Denmark in 2005, and in 2007 recorded his second album with Melbourne producer Nick Huggins – released in 2008.
Xave is currently recording his next album - preview the first track 'The Fall' on the audio section.
