"Songwriters for SICA"

This unique event is the brainchild of Xenia Sky and Paul Otters, two area musicians who were trying to think of a way to help support SICA. - The Link

"Women of Song"

This event was conceived and created by Maxine Snow and Helen-Chantal Pike, and organized along with Brenda Wirth of Rosie’s Café; and Jenny Woods and Cathy Noblick, of Musicians on a Mission. Ms Snow, inspired by Sarah McLaughlin’s “Lilith Fair,” felt it was important to both showcase talent of women in the Jersey shore area, and provide inspiration and hope to others.

All proceeds will benefit “180, Turning Lives Around,” which is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence in our community. The organization has served individuals and families for 35 years, providing both immediate and long-term support to assist clients in dealing with the trauma they have experienced.

Featured musicians are Carol Barbieri, Emily Grove, Kelley Dewkett, Jenny Woods, April Kelly, Melissa Chill, Xenia Sky, Jo Wymer and Maxine Snow. Featured Poets are Helen-Chantal Pike, MaryCae Vignolini, Maxine Snow, Jessica Smith, Bernice Sosa-Izquierdo and Nicole Homer. Featured artists are ellen martin, Katherine Stuart and Maxine Snow. - Only in!

We also have it on good authority, if not with signed affidavit, that Nicole will do her best to persuade her fellow “night people” in the LoserSlam combine to venture out blinking into the noonday sun and join in the fun. It’s a core group that comprises 2010 Grand Slam Champion Thomas Tre G. Gilbert, as well as Jersey City Slam host Ben “Broken English” Figueroa, co-Slammaster Connor Dooley, and stylin’ singer/songwriter Xenia Sky — although she could be excused for attending her own CD release party on that date at The Bitter End. - Upper Wet Side

"Xenia Sounds Wise Beyond Her Years On 'Way Back Home'"

By Muneeza Iqbal

Imagine releasing your second album on the conclusion of your freshman year at college. Well, these dreams are certainly coming true for New School student and upcoming indie star Xenia Sky, who has been singing and writing songs since the age of 14.

Her music is soulful, and her sultry voice hypnotizing. The songs on her new album, “Way Back Home,” range from upbeat tunes to more mellow numbers. Each song is about a relationship — either being crushed or formed. However, her music usually covers a range of themes, from racism to global crises.

“I started writing the album when I was in a transition between different places away from home,” she said.

Xenia’s lyrics and ideas could be considered very mature for a teenager. The album’s biggest hit, “Telescope,” is an example of this rockin’ precociousness.

“It’s about that phase right before a relationship — or maybe for some while in a relationship — when you feel that you can give yourself to them entirely,” she explained.

In the past, Sky has organized two benefit concerts, one to raise funds for an arts organization and the other for earthquake-stricken Haiti. In July she played at the Rock for Hope concert in Seabright, N.J., to raise money for children with cancer.
