Bio

Singing since the age of eight and songwriting since age fourteen, Loida Hopkins has always found it easiest to express herself through music. Having come from a musical family, where her mother was a recording-artist and father and siblings play an array of instruments; music, in all of its forms are deeply ingrained in her veins. Inspired primarily by hip hop, R&B, gospel and contemporary Christian sounds, Loida brings authentic lyrics backed by flexible vocals and beautiful harmonies. Loida sings from her heart mapping out her personal struggles and experience with God.

Inspired by all forms of music ranging from hip-hop and R&B all the way to heavy metal, Xavier started putting lyrics together since the age of fourteen. He never considered himself a rapper until challenged by his pastor, Rev. Michael Heath, to compose a rap about God - from that point he took off with it. As he grew and learned more, his lyrics became more potent. Xavier brings a finely-tuned, calculated rap style with a commitment to lyrics that are relatable and easily understood; setting himself apart from other rappers.

In 2009, Xavier and Loida met in college then married in 2011. Throughout their journey they put their ministries together creating a new hip-hop and R&B group. Fusing their two gifts and styles together, the two artists deliver a new and unique sound that all people can appreciate. Soon after coming together, Xavier and Loida put their gifts on display at many churches. After a few short months, Xavier returned to his home church with Loida and after their first time ministering as a unit, Pastor Michael Heath coined the group’s name. Based on Hebrews 13:15 “Therefore, through Him let us continually offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of our lips that confess His name,” and the members’ initials, the name XLPraise was established. The group’s motto: “Give God an Extra Large Praise”.

In 2015, recording artist, Erek McFadden, introduced XLPraise to Billy Davis Jr., owner and producer of Spirit of Worship Records. There was an immediate connection which quickly developed into the perfect partnership.
