xya

xya, a Hard Rock outfit from Columbus Ohio, has been mixing the brash with the beautiful musically for nearly a decade.

Vocalist Mike Scott stylistically ranges from Chino Moreno of Deftones fame to Maynard James Keenan of Tool / A Perfect Circle. Scott lyrically follows in the footsteps of others such as Bono in that his lyrics are often not without some sort of message of love, hope, peace, & salvation stemming from his conviction to his Christian faith.

Guitarist Josh Hamilton can fairly be compared to Adam Jones of Tool fame in that he typically blends cold over driven tones with soft almost " Dave Matthews" style melodies. Hamilton, a former drummer, is also quite fond of odd time signatures.

Bassist Dan Carmany often looks to explore a song rather than follow it, in other words, he's not usually one to play the same notes as the Guitarist. Carmany, who has spent some time as lead singer with other projects, also offers his vocals in a support role on many "xya" songs.

Drummer Joe Hamilton is not your average 4/4 time keeper. Joe, like his idol Danny Carey of Tool fame, usually spends quite a bit of time hammering out 8th & 16th notes on his Toms & Double Bass Drum. Hamilton also likes to incorporate other percussion instruments into his kit such as Gong, Clave, Djembe, & yes... Didgeridoo. Hamilton occasionally works with a half acoustic/ half electronic kit from time to time.
