Music

The best kept secret in music

Press

"XYLEM does some of the coolest original music I've heard for a long time. "VIOLET", for one, needs to be played on the air. It has been playing in my head since I first heard it last weekend! -harmonies, hooks, lyrics, music for the mind and the heart! To drastically understate, these guys have something good here and anyone who's heard them must know that.”

Bio

XYLEM was formed in 1998 when founding members, Joel Hazzard and Joshua Zimmerman set out to create simple music of quality and substance perhaps fueled as a backlash to the MTV anti-music brigade of the 1990's. They soon found that their efforts were taking them into worlds of sonic nostalgia - back to those songs that didn't have to have a face, cliche or controversy attached to them to be heard. This was music for music's sake. It had purpose, sincerity and all without an alterior motive. After a period of developing their sound and playing with a wide variety of different musicians and vocalists, guitarist, David Yonker joined the group in 2002, adding a spirited flavor to the band’s compositions. The melodic songwriting and timeless vocal styles of Whitney Manning added another dimension to the group's sound in 2004. Jim Nye completes XYLEM as the group's solid and subtle drummer / percussionist.

XYLEM is a progressive/multi-genre band whose compositions are reminiscent of a time in music when the focus was placed on well-crafted, melodic songs. For the members of XYLEM, song writing is top priority. Being largely inspired by the likes of The Beatles, Queen, Peter Gabriel, and U2, their style of music offers an eclectic mix which ranges from 80's inspired pop songs, to progressive rock and world music.
