Yadkin River Theory pushes the boundaries where Rock, Americana and Psychedelic music can all be fried up in the same greasy pan.

Biography

Formed in 2009, Yadkin River Theory came blazing out of small town North Carolina with a fresh rock sound that paid tribute to their southern roots while channeling the diverse musical influences that shaped them sonically. Led by former rivals on the NC scene Tony Greene and Tripp Edwards, YRT pushes both ends toward the middle to create memorable riffs, melodies and lyrics that defy cliché to offer true insight into the volatile mix of light and darkness that make up the human experience. Rounding out the band are Kenny Thomas and Garrett Christy creating a smooth, powerful rhythm section that growls like a muscle car on a back road. Craig Hanks joined the team in 2010 to add the final link in the chain of guitar goodness. Falling somewhere between Tom Petty and The Who with some Dylan, Cure and Elvis Costello thrown in the mix, YRT boasts its own signature sound carved from sweaty, electric performances in clubs and bar rooms across the country. Yadkin River Theory is proud to announce the arrival of their debut album “Born of Red Clay”. Eight months of beer, whiskey, sweat, tears and blood went into the blender to produce these 11 songs that cover as much territory as the titled red clay of the American south. Much like the Yadkin River they grew up next to, these songs are light and dark, clear and smooth one minute, cloudy and violent the next, but always compelling and above all rock like hell.

Lyrics

Natalie Wood

Written By: Tony Greene

Deep dark eyes, I'll call you Daisy
Wrapped up in this corner of my mine
Late at night it's kind of hazy
Wondering if there'll ever come a time

Late one night she took the dingy off the Splendor
Anchored far along the California coast
It's a shame that it's all over now, it's haunting me
Drifting in my mind just like a ghost

Yeah,
She wanted silence in her head

It's a dream that we can wonder now, drifting how
Never was and never gonna be
It's such a shame about her and Jimmy Dean, rebels still
Still living in my minds mezzanine

Yeah
She wanted silence in her head

It's such a shame, that it's all over now
When all she ever wanted was some splendor in the grass
Here today but not gone tomorrow
The most beautiful things in this world, they never last

Yeah,
She wanted silence in her head

Starting to Show

Written By: Tripp Edwards

What you didn't know
Is you're starting to show
Could you let it shine?
Well that's just fine.
What I'm talking about,
Is I'm beginning to doubt,
If it were the end of the world,
You would be my girl.

And the questions remain
If I were to go insane
Would you hold my hand?
If it's not what we planned?
Would you stay by my side?
Would you run and hide?
We could make it good.
Don't you think we should?

What you didn't know
Is you're starting to show
Could you let it shine?
Well that's just fine.
What I'm talking about,
Is I'm beginning to doubt,
If it were the end of the world,
You would be my girl.

Night Driving

Written By: Tony Greene

Wanted to know if we could take a drive
I don't want to wait around and waste another night
Sometimes I want to fade away
You're the only thing round here that makes me want to stay.

Don't want to drag you down
Or hurt you anymore
Sometimes at night I feel I'm rotten to the core
Don't want to be a fool but don't want to be unkind
But I'm having trouble making up my mind
Night Driving

Roll down the window, wind in my hair
Don't want to take you nowhere; I want to take you everywhere
You say that I won't talk to you
Well my tongue is tied up with my guts and my lips are stuck like glue

Don't want to drag you down
Or hurt you anymore
Sometimes at night I feel, I'm nailed down to the floor
Don't want to be a fool, but don't want to be unkind
But I'm having trouble making up my mind
Night Driving

I know that you're thinking but not saying I'm a fool
And it makes me wonder why you love me like you do
I'm so unfair to you, it's obvious to see
But if anyone gets hurt I hope it's me,
If anyone gets hurt I hope it's me. . .
Night Driving

Anywhere, anytime
Hope is yours, doubt is mine
See your eyes, what makes them shine
I wish that I could have more time
For You
For You

Headlights shine
Headlights shine
Yeah, they shine
shine, shine, shine

Johnny's Grave

Written By: Tripp Edwards

In a ’67 Chevy he made his escape
After Jennifer Johnson accused him of rape.
He made it to Kentucky but was held down by a flood,
His wheels, spinning, in 22 inches of mud.

Mama grab my gun and stand out of my way
Johnny took my little sisters innocence away
And I swear as stand before you today,
I’m gonna see Johnny’s grave.
Yes, I’m gonna see Johnny’s grave.

It was somewhere out near Mount Vernon, Illinois.
I found him in the place he was employed
But he saw me first as I walked through the door.
With a tire iron, he laid me to the floor.

So I followed him through Kansas, and the Colorado snow
Missed him up in Laramie by about a day or so
Finally caught him on a Utah mountainside
And asked him; Do you have any words before you die?

He begged for forgiveness when I showed him my gun.
He tried and tried to convince me he was not the one.
I swear as I stood there my Mama’s only son.
Johnny you know you’re the one.
Yeah, Johnny, What have you done?

Mama grab my gun and stand out of my way
Johnny took my little sisters innocence away
And I swear as stand before you today,
I’m gonna see Johnny’s grave.
