While most of the world is familiar with the New York City borough of Brooklyn, many people outside the Big Apple are probably unaware the area is known as Kings County as well. The royally named location also has a representation for producing some of the greatest rap kings in music history, and the next BK resident hoping to earn his Hip Hop crown is Ya Highne$$.
The 27-year-old rapper recorded his first song “Be Alone” in 2011 and released his mixtape Y.H.I.C. (Ya Highne$$ In Charge) the following year. After winning the Coast 2 Coast NYC Industry Mixer Showcase, Desert Storm Showcase, and the Faces In The Crowd Showcase in 2013, the Crowns Heights native is currently working on his debut EP.

Visionary and lyrical, Ya Highne$$ has been named the latest edition to the ranks of talented hip-hop artists from the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn. Born Edward Jerome Wiley , he is known for his poetic sounds and hip hop influences. Growing up, just the experience of wearing his uncle’s headphones captivated him and thus began his love for the music industry. He would hear stories and see pictures of his favorites during the 90’s when hip-hop was arguably at its best. From Big Daddy Kane and Tribe Called Quest to The Notorious B.I.G and Jay-Z, all of these artists had a massive impact on Ya Highne$$’s music career. Like many rappers, Ya Highne$$ began writing poetry as a way to escape his surroundings and stay on the right track.
In 2011, Ya Highne$$ recorded his first single “Be Alone”. The following year, Ya Highne$$ released his mixtape entitled Y.H.I.C. (Ya Highne$$ In Charge), an ode to the influential experiences from the environment he grew up in. As a result of personal ventures, Ya Highne$$ is no newbie to the limelight. He has garnered acclaim from notable platforms like Faces in The Crowd, premiering his showcase at SOB’s and claiming first place. He was the winner in the Coast 2 Coast NYC Industry Mixer Showcase at Webster Hall as well as the winner of the Desert Storm Showcase.
Lastly, Ya Highne$$ has opened up for major acts like, Meek Mill, Juelz Santana, and soon to be Wiz Khalifa this July. Adding to his list of achievements, Ya Highne$$ has been on tour with Uno the activist and Warhol. He is currently in the studio working on his encore mixtape to be released early summer. While using his curations as platforms to express himself, Ya Highne$$ gives the hip-hop community rare sounds and positive vibes through his music and way of life.
