YÁMBAWA is a New York latin band that goes above and beyond typical salsa with an undercurrent of rock, rap, reggae and pop. A truly diverse group, YÁMBAWA’s members hail from Puerto Rico, Peru, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and all across the states. YÁMBAWA is masterminded by “the best bongocero in the universe”, Anthony Carrillo; a virtuoso percussionist with fresh compositions that reflect his many experiences including performing with Puerto Rican metal rock band, PUYA, as well as salsa/jazz legend Eddie Palmieri. He brings to the stage salsa, rock and reggaeton infused with rhymes by Fr3$ko (GMQ), El Barrio’s #1 rapper. YÁMBAWA’s Diva, Jennifer Delgado (formerly of DLG) fills the room with her feel good aura singing latin versions of pop classics like “Time After Time” and “I can see clearly”. The diversity extends to the unusual instrumental mix. Driving latin percussion, funky bass and metal guitar are topped by a fat brass duo and throwback latin flute. Fans have referred to YÁMBAWA’s style as Cuban timba, South American “salsa choque”, rap, rock and reggaeton, but all agree “YÁMBAWA se mueve”. It moves you.
