Biography
They say everything is big in Texas. This holds true for R&B singer
Yamisse; an East Texas native whose big dreams of entertaining lead
her to the world of music. Singing since the age of 3, Yamisse honed
her craft singing in talent shows and choirs. She was selected to
perform in the Magic 102.5 Talent Showcase, as well as the Texas
D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse and Rehab Education) Choir. While singing Even Me
by Yolanda Adams she caught the attention of Mike Kelly, VP of Elektra
Records, who gave her feedback that encouraged her pursuit as a
recording artist.

Yamisse’s go-getter attitude and help from an industry contact landed
her an audition with the world-renowned R&B group “Destiny’s Child”.
Although Yamisse wasn’t chosen, she graciously learned from the
invaluable experience. Her audition made a huge impact on her career.
“It taught me to always be prepared and to seize every opportunity,”
says Yamisse. Thus, Yamisse continued to carve out the path to her own
destiny. Speaking of destiny, music runs through Yamisse’s veins. Her
father, Harold Guidry, played trumpet for The Temptations at the age
of 17. Surely, his musical influence rubbed off on his daughter.

Shortly after her Destiny’s Child audition, Yamisse traveled to New
Jersey to sing for Ray Chew of "Ray Chew and the Crew" of the Apollo
Theater. Yamisse met Ray Chew at UNCF fundraiser and quickly seized
her opportunity to work with him, which led to her singing at the
Apollo one Wednesday night. Courage and confidence is what it takes to
perform for the Apollo audience. Yamisse took Ray’s constructive
criticism and learned to face the crowd without losing focus.

Yamisse is more focused now than ever and music means everything to
her after coming close to losing her voice to thyroid surgery. “Music
is freedom to me. Music means expressing who you are without having
boundaries,” says Yamisse. “Music is my foundation.” She also has
family for support and who have always encouraged her to stay true to
self and pursue her dreams.

Influenced by Phyllis Hyman, Luther Vandross, Dave Hollister, and
Whitney Houston to name a few; Yamisse hopes to bring back the
nostalgia of the songstress' of the past 3 decades utilizing her broad
range and sense of emotion to captivate her audience. Music of
substance is Yamisse’s plan for the R&B solo project she’s currently
putting together. “I plan to sing of empowerment and help boost the
self esteem of others as well as sing love and how it feels to be in
love,” says Yamisse. Yamisse’s talent, focus, and vision are sure to
make her a star as big as Texas.
