Feeling a bit camera shy


Swagger appeal and ruthless confidence define the group of four unique artists known as Symbols of Sex (S.O.S.). Their style and sound reflect the origin of hip-hop culture, which is made up of a grown appearance, sexy beats, and mature lyrics. The artists comprising S.O.S. 2ew Gunn Ciz and DistantStarr as the two MCs, Steve Leevy working with production, and Ashley J. Howard on the vocals. S.O.S. is managed by YBMusic of YBME Entertainment, LLC.

As a solo artist, Ciz’s latest effort is BC: The Designer Drug EP, produced by Brizzo. This EP comes following the enormous response to prior projects like Tailgating:The 3 Second Rule and Pay 2ew Play: The Mix Tape Scandal Continues, both hosted by DJ Bedtyme 357. He has been featured on several mix tapes and compilations including: United We Stand, Divided We Fall from High Intentions Records, DJ Bedtyme 357's Concealed Weapons, Legend's This is Why They Hate Me hosted by AC, Veteran's Day hosted by Torae and Back to the Basics hosted by Termanology. Mr. Carroll will not stop.

DistantStarr’s solo publications includes collaborations with Blu (of Blu & Exile) and future hip hop icons, Jneiro Jarel's imprint (who now has an album out with Khujo from legendary Atlanta group, Goodie Mobb) and recent work with international artist Jay Scarlett of Germany. The Manhattan native is also one half of StarrSkream, a team duo that includes Le N?ko of France. They’ve already fused cultures with various sounds to create a 20-minute mix, which is available for download. He also has an upcoming project with Kissey Asplund of Sweden with two singles available entitled, "Car Ride" and "Tokyo". Starr is 1/5 of the Rap Pack, one half of rap group MAGr and has even worked on the Reebok Future Generation album with Reggie B of Kansas City.

As an under 25-year-old professional, Leevy has produced a wide-variety of tracks. From Philly sensation 2ew Gunn Ciz to Gospel artist, Rasheem Shambry & AWAM, Leevy is mashing sounds to make unforgettable songs. With role models like Jazz artist Art Tatum or instrumentalists Johnny Smith, Thaddeus Tribbett or Victor Wooten to music legends like Prince – the Camden musician is currently working with Bronx native and super producer Buckwild at shopping his production.

In recent years, Ms. Howard has expanded her vocal repertoire to include R&B performances and stage productions. She has sung background at live performances for renowned artist Ledisi. Ms. Howard recently completed a European tour of the stage production of the movie, “Sister Act.”

As a newly formed group in early 2009, S.O.S. has not yet released an album but have created singles Made for This, Money Makes Me Sexy, and NikeSBs.
