"Music of the World"

"Most of us have been fans of Yener's music for years. Playing in our local clubs, he's been able to walk on stage alone and mesmerize the crowd with his creativity. One guitar, no singing, real time loop or two, and magic would take over the room, as we were transported to Istanbul or other exotic places from Yener's Mediterranean heritage." - St. Croix Avis

Bio

Yener’s early years were spent on the picturesque Turkish Aegean coast, with a family of musicians and music teachers. As a child he enjoyed playing violin, saz, ud, mandolin and guitar. In high school Yener played professionally in various bands; the highlight was performing for a full house in an ancient Roman amphitheater in Hierapolis during music festivals. He became interested in the free spirited improvisational Anatolian Gypsy style and its uncommon rhythmic variations.

Yener then performed with various bands in Europe and achieved the position of studio musician at a pantomime theatre in Amsterdam Holland. This position included recordings for the plays and incorporated a range of styles and types of music.

Yener formed and headed a 7 piece band consisting of classically trained musicians (including a three piece horn section) for Club Mediterranee. They performed live for all the shows as well as accompaniment for many well known European and French-Canadian singers. The eight years he was with Club Med took him to new countries every six months - Turkey, Switzerland, Morocco, Tunisia, Guadeloupe………..

Next, Yener was invited to New York for a brief music assignment. He then was hired to travel and conduct Windsurfing seminars as a head instructor, training instructors and promoting this new sport to the U.S. In 1984 Yener moved to St. Croix (in the U.S. Virgin Islands) for a short stay that turned into a full time self owned water sports business with little time for music. Eventually the focus has returned to his true passion - music. In addition to being known as an award winning song writer, Yener is known for his speed while maintaining control to stay melodic. He has won the 2005 John Lennon Song Writing Contest GRAND PRIZE WINNER in the World Music category and the "Lennon Award" with his song "Night Fall in Istanbul". IMA Independent Music Awards 2006 WINNER in Film/TV/Multimedia with "Fallen Soldier"

Blending the roots of his past with the inspiration of world travel, Yener’s philosophy and style transcend the typical idea of *world* music pertaining to only one place or ethnicity. His music is a borderless combination of classical, fusion jazz and Mediterranean/Aegean sounds.
