"GROUPS BAND TOGETHER TO HELP HAITI"

The devastating earthquake in Haiti earlier this month has touched of an outpouring of support from every corner of the world.

Dover is no exception as the Fight for Haiti benefit concert is set for Saturday at the Noble's Pond community clubhouse at 96 Eddie Evans Lane off of Rose Bowl Road.

Group E Publicity, a local entertainment publicity firm, and the Nosnibor Foundation for Hope, a group founded by Dover musician Tony Robinson, have joined to present the event from 1 to 5p.m.

Four local bands will be donating their time and talent for the cause. Mr. Robinson's Ynot Nosnibor, Nothin But Trouble, The Todd Stonesifer Band and the Tom Larsen Band will all take the stage.

"These four bands represent some of the biggest talent in our state, and with this contribution, they are showing us a lot of big hearts as well," said Helen Haughey, president of Group E.

Mr. Robinson said it was his mother who got the idea off the ground.

"She called me from (his native) Hampton, Va., and said I should do some type of event with what was going on in Haiti," he said.

"She actually suggested the same thing after Hurrican Katrina but I really didn't have the time or the know-how to put it together."

This time Mr. Robinson said he knew he had to do something, so he got in touch with Ms. Haughey and the pair put together Saturday's event.

"It was just sort of impulsive. I've been running around in circles but two weeks later, here we are," he said.

He said the other participating bands jumped at the chance to perform.

"They came right in. I have been performing with Tom Larsen for the last five years and I've know Joey Fulkerson, Billy Meyers and Greg Haughey from Nothin But Trouble for a couple of years now," he said.

Yoon's Martial Arts will hold demonstrations and there will be a 50/50 raffle and a small auction.

Donations will be collected at the door. The recommended donation will be $20 per person. There will be some very light hors d'oeures and they ask that you bring your own nonalcoholic beverages.

"There may also be some other surprises in store," said Ms. Haughey.

Directions can be obtained by going to www.noblespondhomes.com and proceeds will go to Oxfam America.

Mr. Robinson started the Nosnibor Foundation for Hope as a response to the earthquake and hopes his foundation can do good works long after the Haiti effort.

"I've always been into outreach in the schools -- trying to keep kids off the streets and getting into gangs through getting them involved in music. That sort of thing," he said.

"But I hope to get this going in other directions and take on ideas as they come to me and I believe in them."

In March, the 27-year -old is releasing an album of World music entitled "My Heart's Rise," along with an accompanying book.

He has dabbled in a few different genres over the last eight years of his professional music career but this new CD brings him back to his first love, where he said he is influenced by the likes of Yanni, Kitaro and Ravi Shankar.

"I went back to what I love and sticking with this. I feel good about doing that," he said. - Delaware State News, Best Bets

"YNOT NOS'NIBOR'S DRUM-HEAVY WORLD MUSIC PLAYS THURSDAY"

Tony Robinson is enamored with world music. It shows in his song titles, which include "Raga for Ravi," and ode to Indian master Ravi Shankar, and "Shalom." His band, Ynot Nosnibor, blends that passion for world music and percussion to form its unique sound.

"It's just world music that's centered around Latin drums," Robinson said.

The group will be the closing act to play Concerts on The Green this season. The show is at 7p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, on The Green.

Ynot Nos'Nibor will play some Tito Puente, and add some Latin Flair to songs from the likes of Earth, Wind and Fire, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock and others.

"Like 'Mustang Sally' with a cha-cha groove," Robinson said.

Robinson plays the congas, timbales and guitar and is lead vocalist. Jean Dennis is on keyboards, Duncan West plays bass guitar, Aaron Rhodes is on tenor saxophone and Tierre Waters plays drums.

Robinson discovered world music along with his heritage. An uncle was doing research on the family's lineage and found they were from the British West Indies, Tobago to be exact.

"That music is a part of me, and when I discovered that, I just dove head in," Robinson said.

Although he's not big into Calypso music, he does draw inspiration from other African rhythms. It doesn't stop there. He pulls from classical composers like Bach and Tchaikovsky and new age gurus such as Yanni.

As for the group's name, that's a little nod to Robinson's past. All of his bands have had some form of his name in them, and most of them were overt. This time he wanted to keep that tradition but be a little sneakier about it so the band name is his first and last names spelled backwards: Ynot Nos'Nibor - Dover Post

Bio

Ynot Nosnibor is 1 man... with 1 massive sound. His live energy has been compared to that of Joe Satriani with the compositional justice of Yanni. Since 2006, the composer, author and now instrumental solo artist, Ynot Nosnibor continues to carve his beautiful vision of freedom in the music world.

With three album releases under his belt, Ynot Nosnibor has staged his music under the name of several different bands and tasted the flavor of being signed to a major-independent record label. Taking control over his own destiny, the artist struck out on his own in 2009 after the release of the electronic/vocal driven album "Explode".

Returning to his roots of instrumental world music, 2010 brought with it the release of his latest album "My Heart's Rise" as well as the companion book "Inspirations Behind the Music". The album reached the Top 50 on the SoundClick World Fusion charts in March 2010 and contiues to keep fans jamming at his live shows.

Today Ynot Nosnibor lead his charge with his Fender Strat in hand and his epic music at his back.
