"Review by Vonnie"

On the Violet Flower outro, Yolanda speaks the words..love, light, peace, hope, powerful, magical, spiritual, and sensual. She’s just described her entire EP in eight words but the experience of listening to Violet Flower will be an endless revelation of just how good music can be. - www.honeysoul.com

"Review by Chris Rizik"

"While Johnson explores different lyrical and musical territory on Violet Flower, there's cool groove throughout the disc that makes the album cohesive and consistently engaging.  And Johnson's wry, attractive voice is the perfect match for her material." - www.soultracks.com

"Review by Mosaic Thump"

"You are totally drawn into the story of her world through these songs of life, love, struggle and sacrifice. There is no way you will be able to turn off this disc once it reels you in with its almost aromatic lyricism and polished vocals." - www.mosaicthump.blogspot.com

"Review by Frances Jaye"

"I love Yolanda's beautiful voice and original songwriting, she is a breath of fresh air. Add her to the growing list of incredible artists in the underground soul movement!" - www.neosoulcafe.com

"Review by Drake Phifer"

"There might be a Gap Band in Yolanda's family, but there's no gap in talent from that generation to this generation. Yolanda carries her own handily and like her latest song "Individual," is an all-in one - an individual singing and scatting force to be reckoned with." - www.urbanorganic.net

"Review by Ronda Carson"

"Sass, sophistication with a twist of femininity, makes for an empowering musical cocktail." - Talk and Tell Media

"Review by DJ Aski"

"Yolanda has a sound for all seasons…" - Track Minds Production Crew

Bio

The summer of 2006 is in full bloom with the release of Violet Flower… Yolanda Johnson and her label, MetaMusic Records are poised to expose the phenomenon of female empowerment, beauty, and class. Let’s face it, those of us who were born as a result of the Motown era watched an explosion of soul music throughout the world increasingly become ignored by the mainstream. YOLANDA will set the record straight. This independent soul-singer and songwriter brings a refreshing energy of understated sexuality and social commentary. Yolanda rescues us from track hopping and takes us back to the day when all you had to do was just push “play.”

This Brooklyn, NY native has been writing since the age of 5. Early on, she took notice of how music affected people, realizing how it makes people reminisce and eases pain; how it uplifts, calms, and heals. Music naturally flows through Yolanda’s veins. Yolanda’s father, Samuel Jonathan Johnson, was a Columbia Recording Artist. Yolanda is also cousin to Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert of the Gap Band. She says, "All I remember as a child growing up was going to bed listening to my father's band and waking up hearing my father's band, and I LOVED it." Yolanda now lives in Moreno Valley, CA right outside of Los Angeles.

Yolanda released her first project, Sweet Yesterday in 2002. With Violet Flower, she is reintroducing herself, offering an eclectic sound that can simply be categorized as SOUL! Anyone listening to her music will enjoy the freedom and exploration of the soulful rhythms. Her live performance is filled with captivating good vibes with three amazing background singers and a monstrous five-piece band that reminds you why you cannot live without music.
