Bio

Yolanda Marie was born on August 4, 1984. She is a singer/songwriter whose main focus is on the mixed genre of R&B/Hip-Hop/Pop/Soul. She is originally from Milwaukee, WI but has resided in San Diego, CA since July 2004. She spent four years in the Navy from 2002-2006, with which a year and a half of was spent stationed in Virginia.

Yolanda first discovered her aptitude to sing while in the car with her mom at the age of four. Yet, she did not initiate writing profoundly until around her junior year in high school when she entered a city wide poetry contest with a poem called “Chicken Scratch”, which took an entire ten minutes to write.

The poem was satisfactory to be able to present it in front of countless people. However, it was not adequate to place first, second or third. That did not deter her spirit though, so she consistently wrote poetry and attended poetry slams around the city. This determination however, ended at the sad news of discovering that her favorite poetry spot became a victim of arson. Yolanda would not write another poem for roughly another four years.

Though her writing was seized, Yolanda Marie ventured off into the Navy and joined the ship’s choir. She also did masses of karaoke in a neighboring bowling alley and on the ship when they were underway. She was liked by scores of people on the ship for her singing capability and was persistently asked, “Why haven’t you tried to get signed?” To this, Yolanda would answer, “It’s just a hobby and I don’t want to be famous.” After being released from the Navy, Yolanda also tried her hand at being a DJ for a year but it wasn’t the lifestyle that she envisioned for herself so she “retired” her turntables.

It was not until the summer of 2008 when she started writing actual songs and her interest in the music business started to ascend. She has since written numerous amounts of songs, recorded thirteen songs, and appeared as a featured artists on five hip-hop songs. She has performed live multiple times at various venues around San Diego to include The Epicenter in Mira Mesa, Riley's Music Lounge in Point Loma, Davina's Cabo Grill in Oceanside, On Broadway Nightclub and Onyx Nightclub in San Diego, Secondwind Navajo in La Mesa and Mira Mesa Street Fair in San Diego.

Currently Yolanda is working with many other amazing local R&B artist with the SOS or Support Our Singers Campaign in an effort to gain support from not only other R&B arists but Hip-Hop artists, DJs and promoters alike to get the word out around San Diego that R&B is well alive and kicking.

Yolanda remains relentless in her efforts of continuing to persue music as a career. Please feel free to follow her on this exciting journey of musical pleasure, passion and pain.
