"Memphis Moves to Abbey Road"

“Yorkk is one of the most explosive acts I have seen in years. Their performance is physical, powerful and yet melodic. With a heavy nod to Brit pop, roots rock, and straight ahead rock and rock (the Beatles and Elvis would be proud), these guys stand out in a field of whiney, downer, derivative bands as they write good songs, sing them hard and well, and actually relate to the audience. What a concept. Yorkk represents to me what good music is all about: good songs, great performances, and an attitude to serve up the best music to their audience they can muster each night. That is the ONLY formula for success.”

"Powerhouse of Great Songs"

"Yorkk is a an energetic powerhouse of great songs, sound, and overall performance! Lead vocalist/lead guitarist, Michael Flores, has the strong presence and soaring vocals that make him a strong contender in the pool of great singers and performers in the industry. Hook-laden songs and ‘the show is not over until everyone has enjoyed themselves’ attitude have kept many on their feet, with smiles on their faces, until closing time! What a great bunch of guys! All of them!"

"WOW!"

“I visited a showcase by a 3 piece band from Houston named Yorkk. I was blown away by their voices, instrumentation, musicality, stage presence, and incredible original songs. Yorkk has the potential to be the hottest new rock band in the nation.”

Bio

Yorkk actually began their musical adventure five years ago. Michael Flores, lead vocals and guitar, Jacob Lisenbe, bass, and Travis Nunn, drums, formed a band called Tommy Kickstand and did the usual club circuit for about 2 years. In early 2002 however, Michael began writing songs that didn’t quite fit with the band’s current repertoire. “I was writing all this music that was just not sounding like the band I was playing in,” says Michael, “So I decided to start working on a solo project.” Although the friends kept in touch, Michael pursued his solo project, even garnishing a much sought after “Songwriter of the Year” nomination in the 2003 Houston Press Music Awards. Meanwhile, Jacob began playing with The El’s and Travis became a much sought after session player and studio drummer.

In mid summer of 2003, the musical threesome joined again for an impromptu jam session at a local venue and Yorkk was born.

Yorkk quickly began playing the top venues in Houston, rapidly expanding across Texas (and beyond). In this short period of time, they have performed shows in Austin, College Station, Dallas, Denton, Ft. Worth and Oklahoma City, opening for Los Lonely Boys and Pilot Radio.

When Travis decided to go on tour with a national act in the Spring of 2004, Yorkk did not miss a beat. Jacob’s younger brother, Michael Lisenbe, stepped up to the plate drums. Besides the natural vibe that comes from being brothers, Jacob & Michael had previously played together with The Els.

In today’s world of rock bands with lyrics about hating their fathers and longing for escape from the perils of their medicated lives, Yorkk’s music is a refreshing spin down memory lane. But don’t think for a minute that Yorkk is just a re-hash of what you’ve experienced before. They have been described as “transcending retro rock to a completely new genre… lean, and full of low end muscle, this trio sounds like Memphis’ Sun Studios somehow packed up and moved to Abbey Road”.

Yorkk’s songs are infused with a unique blend of catchy hooks and sing-along choruses. “Even if you have never been to a Yorkk gig before,” says bassist, Jacob Lisenbe, “I promise you’ll leave with at least one of our songs stuck in your head.”
