"Yoruba Sabrosura pura"

- Zona Rumbera

Bio

YoRuBá Dc. was born in Bogota-Colombia in 1999, since then, we are evolving in the definition of our style and concept. Energy and “pure tastiness” make our show a staging with a variety of environments and rhythmic styles designed to capture the attention of the audience from beginning to end, making them dance and enjoy a good salsa concert.

YoRuBá Dc was heard for the first time in May 1999, at the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional in the arts festival of “el Nogal” by his director Wilder Alarcón initiative. Our music is composed by the hit of "hard salsa" and seasoned with the contemporary sounds of timba, jazz, funk as well as the richness of Colombian folklore. Our musical influences range from Bach, los Van Van de Cuba, Kool, the Gang and the traditional Colombian music. The style of the YoRuBá, make them an inspiring orchestra that moves without fear, with open view of new trends and evolving.

YoRuBá Dc participated with great success and reception at “Festival Salsa al Parque” (Salsa to Park festivals) in the years 2001, 2002 and 2005 and after several restructuring and breaks Wilder Alarcón decided to rethink the instrumental format of Orchestra. He was looking for a characteristic sound, urban but with its unique Caribbean flavor, and great harmony that identified YoRuBá and differentiate them from the other orchestras in the city.

This is how by 2006, YoRuBá Dc begins a process that still does not end. Our searching and timbric experimentation generated YoRuBá Dc's current stage and instrumental proposal: four wind instruments; 2 trumpets, 1 alto saxophone and trombone. As well as, we have three percussionists; Drums, Congas and Güiro, electric bass, Piano and, three singers; two male voices and one female.

In 2007, we began a series of tours, presentations at Salsa night clubs as well as in universities, colleges, concert halls, and even in the streets with the sole purpose of maturing day by day our show and staged. Also, during the same year YoRuBá Dc was presented at the 10th Salsa to Park festivals occupying the third place. This important achievement opened us to be known in the city as one of the most promising Salsa orchestras of Bogotá.

By 2008, YoRuBá Dc has already a considerable number of fans; both within and outside of the country. Our great host was further strengthened with the launch of our first album titled "in the fight" (“EN LA LUCHA”) in association with Buenavista house records. This production is characterized by the inclusion of unpublished songs. On the other hand, the same year YoRuBá Dc won first place in the eleventh Salsa to the park festival. We got the highest score and recognition by the jurors. Thanks to this achievement, YoRuBá Dc was allowed to share the stage with renowned orchestra “grupo niche” in their 25th anniversary celebration. This event took place in Bogota in the Down Town Majestic.
By 2009, YoRuBá Dc officially launched their first album with a great concert organized and funded entirely by ourselves. This event took place on 4 July in Bogota- Colombia at the Metro Theater and was attended by the teacher Cesar Mora and his Orchestra Maria Canela. On the other hand, for the twelfth Salsa to the Park festival YoRuBá Dc was one of the district orchestra invited together with “La 33” and “la mambo Big Band” and also shared the stage with Calambuco and La real Charanga and amount others. In the same year we began the process of producing our new album that would be produced independently and aims to exceed the expectations of our first album. In addition, YoRuBá Dc pretended to project it new production in 2010 as one of the best albums of salsa in Bogota.
In 2010 YoRuBá Dc was presented with great success in the cabaret tent of Ibero-American theatre festival, as well as, in the Gilberto Álzate Avendaño Foundation and in the majestic Town Down together with the LeBron’s brothers. During the same year, YoRuBá Dc premieres at the market his second album “SABROSURA PURA” (“pure tastiness”) in addition to the production of videos for the tracks “TIERRITA LA PASADO” ("soil to the past") and “COMO TE VA MI AMOR” ("How will you my love.”).

During the national tour, we bring our show to cities like Medellin, Cali, Armenia and Ibague, additionally to the promotion of our second album “pure tastiness." For this second production, the track “TIERRITA LA PASADO” ("soil to the past") has gained much recognition, playing on several national radio stations. The video of this track is positioned with great success on different channels specializing in music videos throughout the country and in some Latin America countries such as Ecuador and Peru.

Currently, YoRuBá Dc continues to bring his show to specialized salsa clubs, as well as we are preparing our Latin American tour, planning to visit countries like Peru, Ecuador, Chile and Argentina, where our music is already recognized. YoRuBá Dc is a self-management; this means that we are
