Young Animals

Young Animals

BandFolkAmericana

We play a blend of stripped down folk, country, and americana in the same vein as Townes Van Zandt. Orchestral and subtle.

Biography

Hailing from Studio City California Spencer Rollins began playing music when he was given his first guitar by Joe Walsh of the Eagles. Growing up around music all his life it was only natural for him to begin a project that would encompass all of the experience that he's gathered throughout the years.

After playing in many bands, and chasing a film making career, he began listening to country and folk music. An eclectic to begin with Spencer could finally say he listened to everything. "Anything from the Melvins to Roy Acuff" he's been heard to say.

His inspiration for music came in the most predictable form, a failed relationship. Pulling himself up from his own self deprecation he began to play simple and subtle folk/country music as a means of self preservation. As he continued writing music he realized it lacked a cohesive structure. He found that structure in his current band.

Though, as of now, Spencer's written the songs that comprise the Young Animals catalog, at shows you can hear numbers from every member of the band and they all play on each other material as well. It is a collective in the most pure sense of the word.

The only thing you can ask for in music is honesty, and Young Animals are just that.
Honest.

Upcoming gigs included a music festival in Oakland California with such great acts as Ancestors, Tweak Bird Balloon band member Jeff and other great bands.

Lots to come in the future and the gang is quite excited to be giving you their music.
