I'm Up Next: Vol. 1 (Hosted by DJ Howard Q) [Mixtape]

Feeling a bit camera shy

“I feel there is no one like me in the city of Memphis. I feel like I’m probably the most marketable artist I’ve seen in this city because I know that I can succeed commercially and also appeal to the “hip hop heads”. For the last year and a half, I have adapted to the method of song-writing where I don’t write anything down, I just listen to the track repeatedly and memorize the lyrics. I feel its better this way, because when I used to write, sometimes the lyrics would be forced out and “over lyrical”. This way my music comes off more natural and genuine.”- R.U.F.U.S.

The Hip-Hop Community in Memphis, TN is about to be exposed to a new avenue. Never before has an artist out this genre out of this particular city has been blessed with lyrical and songwriting ability as well as the talent to appeal to the masses such as him. At the fresh age of 21, R.U.F.U.S is ready to make his mark upon Hip-Hop and is about to do it soon.

Originally hailing from Chicago, IL … R.U.F.U.S moved down to Memphis at the age of 13, home of Hip-Hop pioneers such as Three 6 Mafia, Eightball & MJG, and others. He quickly became a sponge and soaked up every ounce of the Memphis culture and incorporated into his previous “Up North” lyrical style to make him unique to every individual. With his ability to adapt to any style of track, he is able to stand out from the rest.

“Moving down here to Memphis, I’ve been able to see both sides of the fence”, the young lyricist states. “I’ve seen life where it’s been not to great and I’ve also been able to see bits and pieces of Suburban America. I feel with my upcoming project, I am the voice of Young Black America whether they stay in the hood or the Suburbs. I got joints that’s gonna bang out in the clubs, but I also got somethin’ to say too.”
