"Locals Only -- A look at a few CDs CityBeat missed in 2001"

http://www.citybeat.com/2001-12-20/musiclocalsonly.shtml

Youngfellow's self-titled 2001 debut is a thoroughly entertaining display of the young band's tight musical explorations and sly (and sometimes silly) sense of humor. Youngfellow is a playful effort that uses punctuating horns in an almost Ska-like way, but there's few boundaries in the band's musical playpen. Youngfellow's diversity, which extends through Funk, Hip-Hop, Hard Rock, Pop and Punk, is less contrived than most bands that try to mix it up, as the band does a very creative job with structuring the songs. The group that Youngfellow most closely resembles is Fishbone (with whom Youngfellow has played), but mainly that's just because both bands refreshingly don't do too much to make themselves genre-specific. That kind of freedom from the pigeonhole can be annoying in the hands of lesser bands, but Youngfellow's talent as musicians and writers carries them through and sets them apart from the pack (especially locally). - City Beat, by Mike Breen

Bio

YOUNGFELLOW was formed in the summer of 1996. Most of the members knew each other from high school and had been playing as a band in one form or another for many years before this.

Each memeber of YOUNGFELLOW has different tastes in music, from punk and rock, to rap and R & B, to jazz and classical, and influences from many genres can be heard in our music.

As a band, we strive to not have a typical song. Each song is a new experiment and we try and make it as different as possible. However, following this simple rule has created a "YOUNGFELLOW sound" and one can easily recognize a typical song from our band and appreciate its differences from the mainstream.

YOUNGFELLOW has always had a strong fan base and we always appreciate the support they have given us at our shows, both in Cincinnati and many times out of town.
