Bio

Young Lords thought they were going to be a country band. They were wrong.

They began writing songs acoustically in their New York City apartments, mainly because they lacked the gear to plug into.

The Lords went electric after realizing they were more Fun House than Sweetheart of the Rodeo, more Beggar's Banquet than Honky Tonk Heroes.

Hailing from Austin, Texas, Seattle, Washington and New York City, the five-piece found an intersection of sonic styles that incorporated their diverse musical histories.

Lead singer Blair Van Nort and rhythm guitarist/brother Reed Van Nort met drummer Cory Lasser and newly crowned lead guitarist Adam Gerard in classes at the New School University, and soon thereafter met bassist Maxwell Silver during a night on the town.

During their six-month existence, Young Lords have recorded an EP, "Ride The High," in Texas and a demo in Pittsburgh. They've also completed a residency at Lower East Side venue Fat Baby, have played Knitting Factory's main stage, and gigged at Mercury Lounge, Piano's, Sine-e, and Scenic.

Young Lords most recent endeavors include a music video of “Down So Long” by award-winning director Trevor Owsley, two Elle magazine fashion shoots for their September and October issues, and a John Varvatos for Converse print ad campaign.
